Whilst it is a nice item for shadow priests etc, I firmly believe that this should go to a Paladin Tank over another caster if in the same group.
Note that there are really only two other well itemised upgrades in PVE weapons for tankadins; the Amani Punisher (ZA), and the mace off Hyjal Trash.

Other casters do have many other good items which are viable to them; staves, swords and daggers + offhand. Tankadins must use either a Mace or Sword, and all spelldamage swords have spellcrit.

So please, be considerate to the tankadin. He's spent the entire instance AoEing mobs with Consecrate, the least you can do is let him have the weapon named after his signature move.

Seeing as how my weapon never drops, this might be my best shot at finally getting rid of my Gavel from UC. I could care less if the paladin 'had to' tank to the end of this. In the end, I need the upgrade as much as he does and the weapon speed matters little to the raiding pally tank, since it mostly boosts your chance of getting multiple parries in a row.

Not interested in doing pvp to upgrade my weapon, and this new instance would give me the most chances to see an upgrade drop. Not to mention the fact that I can find a group that doesn't have a pally tank, so why put myself in that predicament. Not like a pally has to have a shadow priest to tank. Skip the drama and run separately or ask ahead of time. That's what I've learned to do before TBC when there were warlocks in the party with my shadow priest.

Yep, said plenty of times already, but this is a great weap for a tankadin who doesn't already have the Amani Punisher or Hammer of Judgement.

Not *only* does it have 15 stam, which is half decent on a caster weap, over 200 spell damage AND spell hit, but it has a blue gem, just aching to be socketed with a Solid Star of Elune/Empyrean Sapphire (+12 stam/+15 stam)... and not only that, but the socket bonus is actually highly useful.

In short... this is a fantastic prot pally weapon.

Wow, bunch of pallies looking at this I guess. Nothing really was posted that disproves what I said on my post. My point is run separately or ask ahead of time if the priest is going to roll... simple stuff that people overlook nowadays.

As an alliance paladin tank I'll tell you why I'm interested in this weapon: There are a handful of us out there that like/perfer to use Seal of Vengeance. I find it falling off the mob a LOT unfortunately. This mace with a 1.9 attack speed will be much better for stacking SoV and keeping it up should it start to fall off. I'll be looking for this mace 24/7 because +12 stam isn't going to be hard to socket and it's a nice upgrade from the blue I have currently. For me it may be worth socketing with +15 stamina because of the lack of options a paladin has further down the road. (I believe sword off leo is better suited for a caster)

Obviously it's good for all the other classes that can use it as well because of the flexibility with the socket. ;)

I'm curious as to why a Pally tank would even bother with this weapon... the S2 mace can be purchased with very minimal effort in the arenas.

I was Prot the entire time I was farming my mace, threw some healing gear on and lost about 75% of my games. I had my mace in about a month and a half.

Maybe it's just me, but the fact that it's named "Cudgel of Consecration" leaves little mystery in what the developers itemized this weapon intentionally for.

Sure it's good for casters, as most pally tanking weapons are, but to roll over a paladin tank is like a hunter rolling over a warrior on a debatably-useful weapon because it has AP, agility, or crit on it.

There should be no debate on who this item was designed for.

That debate should instead be on whether it would be polite for a holy paladin to need on this over casters.

It seems like a decent alternative to Nathrezim Mindblade - if you aren't quite up to Kara, or if you haven't seen one drop in forever somewhat like my own Shadow Priest. To be honest, I'd like this for my Shadow Priest over Nath Mindblade for the spell hit and blue gem socket alone. It's simply a better weapon. I also happen to have a tankadin that wants one of these as well, so be gentle and don't try to bite the head off of any priest that might want to roll on this thing, pallies.

I got this on my rogue, the +spellhit and +damage really help my poisons, and the fast speed is great for poison application, especially as mutilate.

This mace uses the same model as the beautiful blue healing mace from reg Durnholde, Northshire Battlemace. It even has the same electrical effect--though a different skin.

I picked this up last night on my pally. I put a Falling Star https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=33135 in it for a total of 31 stam. Seems to make Amani punisher https://www.wowhead.com/cata/item=33283#comments a very minor upgrade. With this gem vs. the punisher I get

+1 Stam
-1 Int
-2 Spell hit
-15 Spell damage

Punisher is stll better, but ths is pretty close and it is much easier to get.

This weapon, like many weapons after the last patch. is primarily for the people who dislike Battlegrounds. The S2 caster weapons will beat anything you get in t4 instances and most of what you find in t5. The exception is badge weapons, but for a pally tank, it's S2 mace then Hyjal.

Although this is a great weapon in this patch , I think that the best pally tanking weapon will be the Gavel of Naaru Blessing after Wrath of the Lich King comes out.

Yea the Gavel cost 150 badges, but as far as I can tell it better then anything that drops in TK or SSC for pallie tanks. Please correct me if im wrong. Now there is a reason to run Kara for those badges.

When compared to the Merciless Gladiator's Gavel, it does have significantly lower stamina (- 12 stam) and spell damage (-22 unsocketed, -20 with a blue gem.) However the socket, higher spell hit, and slightly higher +int makes it a viable option to any caster (Im using this on my Moonkin.) Given that it has a good drop rate, running MgT a few times for this is far preferable (IMO) to grinding battlegrounds till your eyes bleed to get the S2 Gavel.

If you are not yet spell hit capped, this is good when paired with the Star-Heart Lamp (dropped by Temporus in Black Morass) or the Lamp of Peaceful Radiance (dropped by Harbinger Skyriss in Arcatraz.)

I regret Blizzard's choice to implement this mace with the latest patch and keeping it unchanged with the upcoming patch.
For Paladins this was the easiest and best first tanking weapon available for any Tankadin, better versions come from ZA and MH.
Now they revamp the whole idea behind Tankadins and the stats they require, leaving this weapon useless since it remains a caster mace.
Best options now for tankadins are Sun Eater from Patheleon the Calculator in Heroic Mechanar and King's Defender from chess event in KZ. Followed by Mallet of the Tides from the Lurker in SSC and Cleaver of the Unforgiving from Zul'jin in ZA.

Now hopes lie on Sun Eater being able to feed Hammer of the Righteous with sufficient dmg to match up with Cudgel of Consecration, compared, for starting tankadins.

Note: the upcoming patch will cause prot paladins to no longer require spelldmg on gear, but instead get all their threat mostly through Str.
30% of their total Stamina will now be the value of +spelldmg, talented, feeding those few abilities that may still require it. Str will result in +AP for Hammer of the Righteous and block value for Shield of Righteousness.
(2 STR will result in 4 AP and 1 block value.)

You guys that are complaining about SoV falling off because of weapon speed have no idea what you're talking about. Seals proc and PPM, Judgement effect proc on a percentage chance rate. If you're a pally tank and you're having SoV fall off, it isn't because your weapon is too fast/too slow. It's because you don't have high enough melee hit rating and aren't hitting enough times within the 15 second debuff duration. The reason pallies use weapons around 2.0 for tanking is because reckoning does double damage over the course of 8 seconds assuming you don't use up all of the charges on the weapon. Using SoR damage is scaled based on damage speed and you want a weapon that doesn't use up all of the reckoning charges to maximize it's threat output. For those of use paladins that are or want to use SoV for tanking or aren't using reckoning(Which is mindless against trash that doesn't live that long), you want as fast a weapon as possible for more JoW procs. You won't see any increase in mana gained from a fast weapon or a slow weapon with SoW, it's all about hitting the mob more often and if you don't have the hit rating for it, you're not gonna get the seal renewals that you want. It's as simple as that.

Who would make better use of this... a Shadow Priest or Holy Priest... or both...

I had master loot and both priests claimed it was better for them... I ended up letting a random roll decide... but I'm guessing +hit would swing it more the way of the SP...

This weapon is actually a very good healer mace now. Add a +12 Spell Power to it and it becomes one of the better healer weapons in the game. Even better than the S2 Healer mace.

This is a beautiful Mace for Transmogrification, and relatively easy to get. (Any 85 should be able to solo MT now.)

This weapon also hides annoying enchants, with a built in low-key electrical glow.

I recently got this in my first Heroic MgT run. It is an amazing pally tanking weapon. I placed a +15 stam gem in it and now I would not even dream of using a diffrent weapon at this point. I placed a +40 spell damage enchant on it, and did overide the current glow, just FYI. If you are a paladin tank, and are looking for a good weapon, this is the one to get.

Won this 2 nights ago on Heroic Magister's Terrace, from Kael'Thas.

Makes a great Pally Tank mace (replaced my Crystalforged Sword) if you don't already have the Arena S2 Gavel. I put Spelldamage enchant and a Solid Star of Elune in it, boosted my spelldamage nicely so I was able to concentrate on other avoidance gear.

I'd say it's also just a great caster weapon in general, but a Shadow Priest (or other mace-bearing spelldamage dealer) can get better or similar options easier and sooner.

and before anyone starts with the "omg pally tank lol" stuff (i see it all the time in genral chat channels), like with any other class and spec, gear it properly and know what your spells/abilities do and it works great. Some classes and specs just take more work to work well.

I just got this for my pally tank, this was my third heroic run, still trying for my trinket off the 3rd boss.

Its a nice improvement over the crystalforged sword which was in dire need of replacement.
And this mace is comparable to the mace in ZA and its much easier to get. Its such a short and pretty easy heroic.

Throw a nice +12 stam gem and 40spell dmg and it'll be ready for raiding.

i dare say that the pally tanks and shadow priest and (mage loved) oomkins are right but tankadin wins it id say the socket is perfect for the 12 stam (or 15 stam if your a JC/ZA gem) and 40 spell dmg

the name '...of consecration" tells u enough which class blizz thought it would fit best. so yes tankadins and shockadins this is for u. Spriest doomkins eleshams also benefit as much as palas so basicaly this is good for all who can use it exept for combat rogues :P

Damn, this weapon is ugly. There's obviously something wrong with the textures, they look terribly mismatched. I suggest slapping a bright enchant on it.
