As stated, this weapon is more for priests and druids and not so much for paladins due to the lack of critt and mp5 and it's true that there are better and more easily obtainable weapons for holy paladins, but still if you have a chance to get this without angering the rest of the macewielders, take it, because with paladin stats or not, this still is a very nice mace until you get a better one.

Got this one with my Holy (Troll) Priest last night.. noone else wanted it and I didn't want to use the stupid candle staff anymore :P too bad I spent all the emblems on PvP stuff.. now I can't afford a off-hand item anymore *sighs* have to wait for another drop I guess :) anyway it looks pretty nice :D

So this dropped for me tonight and i had the which do i choose quandary...

I'm a Disc Healer and I've had Spire of the Sunset for a bit now, but i miss maces...

I know people are worried about the mp5 drop....but.....I equipped this mace with Matriarch's Spawn...I only lost 4mp5 because of the spirit on both the mace and the off-hand...which isn't that much to worry about tbh...

I also lost 0.8% crit, from the int, and 223 mana, again from the int, and 29 haste. However, I did gained 66 spellpower. Ofc it's not the best out there but it's mighty fine for many classes.

Ok. Yes, to be fair haste does reduce the GDC. Additionally, all those spells can crit, however...

-Swiftmend: You can cast swiftmend in ToL form, but it has a longish CD. Gearing for this spell would be like gearing for a shock spell for shaman. Its an "oh shi-!" button. Especially given that the standard batch of HoT rotations we started using in BC is still perfectly viable to keep the party up.

-Healing Touch: No druid seriously casts this spell. If you spec for it, pick up both talents that reduce it's spell cost, and pick up the inscription rune it is kind of viable, but it's counter intuitive to druid healing. Long story short, it's going to eat mana like a pig. You're better off rolling a paladin and healing, since it'll be roughly the same experience with leather and the option to cast HoTs. Most people who try it generally agree that its mostly something to use if you're under geared. The original build for it was even built around the idea that in BC there are situations where druid HoTs don't cover enough heals to keep a tank alive in some heroics.

-Lifebloom: Lifebloom crits on a bloom, which is currently what you're trying to avoid. It's mana efficiency is dependent on you not having to re-roll triple stacks of it. After the change in 3.1? Yes. Crit will be more useful since they're doubling the mana cost, and then refunding half the total mana cost on blooms.

-Regrowth and Nourish: I literally said these two can crit. However, with how the talent trees are built you're likely to only cast one at any given time, rather than rotating between the two. Beyond that, Regrowth has a talent that gives it such a high crit that additional crit is like having buttered toast with extra butter. Nourish does crit, and to it's credit the crits plus the 20% scaling from having rejuv on a target really work well together, but like swiftmend, its only one spell.

Now, to be fair, I never said that haste or crit were useful for druids. I can see where you might have misunderstood me. Neither are useful to the degree that something like mana regen, or spell power is since they affect all spells. Its more of a "it comes with the gear, and I'm using the gear anyways so why does it matter?" You shouldn't be picking up gear with the explicit purpose of getting more crit or more haste, let alone doing something like putting enchants or socketing gear with crit or haste in mind. In fact its potentially possible for haste to shoot you in the foot when you push out so much HPS that you end up going mana broke without realizing it.

And as for the GCD? Druid healing doesn't really factor in anything that demands being able to cast spells faster. In small raid environments you're typically in tree form, which means that the CD on swiftmend isn't even a factor, and all your spells are instant cast. At the point we're at with gearing currently there isn't enough haste to fill all your slots with to make a significant dent in the GCD. Should you gear haste anyways? Yes. Is it something to make a huge deal about? No.

In short, there might be some comparison where crit is worse to have than haste, but you're not really going to be paying attention to it since the two are insignificant enough that you won't be capping more important stats like spirit, or spell power just for the sake of more haste or crit. If it's there, great, but you should be paying attention to other spells.

Don't call me stupid. I've been playing a druid for four years, so I do kind of know the in's and out's of the class.

Giving the circumstances I'd say you wound up with one no nothing noob who trolled you out.
And quite possibly 1 drood who has been through arguments over this item in the past.

Closing: For those of you arsehats who think its nessicary to leave post about things you honestly dont know about. (Which im sure the guy throwing the word stupid out there is doing) Keep your keys to yourselves. You arent helping anyone. So why leave anything on there.

This is actually very useful for any spec Priest,

I have to disagree.

It's good for Shadowpriests, its good for holy priests.. But Discipline won't benefit as much from this as from the Hammer of the Astral Plane

I will try to say why, and note that this is from personal experience, im not saying that you should aim for the hammer instead, but here is what I think and why:

If equipping this:

I gain: (as Disc, you would gain more SP and such from holy because of talents, same as in shadow)

1 stamina
51.7 mana
7.3 mana regen out of combat
0.21% haste (Without DR)

I lose:

0.89% crit

As you may see, I gain more than I lose, Except for the fact that what I gain is not useful to my spec as a discipline priest.

The stamina I gain, uhm, seriously? I get 1 hitted in raids most of the time.

51,7 mana, sure.. helps in some mana intensive fights, but not by much

7.3 mana regen out of combat, + Meditation would make it ~4 mana regen in combat, also helps, but not by much.

0.21% haste, Awesome! helps me for everything!

and then, I lose ~1% crit for 0.21% haste? Sure, it could be worth it if you've got enough crit, but I don't think that my 27.33% (with the Hammer of the Astral plane) is worth losing 1% for 0.21% haste

When the crit seems to be unneccesary, it is one of the most beneficial stats for a disc priest in my opinion, as the target we crit on gets Divine Aegis.

Just my 0.02$
