An excellent upgrade for shield-wielding tanks that didn't get the opportunity to raid Firelands and pick up Shard of Torment. The styling of this shield appears to be inspired the the very armor worn by Deathwing.

Despite looking like a giant, bleeding scab, or even Deathwing's toenail, it's the closest thing we've had to a shield that actually looks like a shield since Akmin-Kurai, Dominion's Shield

Just comparing this to Shard of Torment, I'd say the Shard is superior. Yeah, this one has mastery on it, but it doesn't have the two sockets, which give you the possibility for 80 mastery (Or 40 mastery and 60 stamina), but most importantly, this one has a lot of extra itemisation spent in strength, which the Shard doesn't have.

Using this over the Shard with the dodge reforged to mastery and two mastery gems (Here, for your convenience), you lose 72 parry (Counting the extra parry from strength that the Carapace gives you), and 19 dodge, while only gaining 24 mastery. 72 parry and 19 dodge is about 0.4-0.5% total dodge and parry, while 24 mastery rating is 0.2% block for warriors and 0.3% block for pallies. Really not worth it, if you've got two mastery gems in there.

If you prefer to match your socket bonuses and you've got the Shard with two puissant gems (Here, for your convenience), you're still losing 19 dodge and 72 parry (And 90 stamina, up to you if that's worth losing. That is a decent chunk of health though, 1455 in total, after buffs), but gaining a much nicer 64 mastery rating, which is 0.54% block for warriors and 0.81% block for pallies, which is a much nicer gain there.

My verdict? If you're using the shard with two pure mastery gems, stick with that, otherwise, it really depends on whether or not you want to lose the 90 stamina.

Of course, it's all moot anyway, because the damn shard is a lie and does not actually exist. >_< Damn bad RNG.

I won greed roll on it 4 my shaman, mogged it to the one from Jaina. Reckon it looks like shaman shiled, what with lava drips and all that. Just my 2 cents :)

The drop rate for this item is 0%. This has been confirmed from extensive trial & error testing. The drop rate stands at absolute 0%

AAAARRRGGGGHHHH! WHY WON'T YOU DROP YOU STUPID SHIELD!

I killed Alisa 2-3 times a day from Tuesday - Thursday of last week, and then queued for this specifically every day, and today I killed her 3 times, all in hopes of getting this damned shield. It doesn't drop. I almost broke my monitor five minutes ago because it didn't drop.

AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!

I have tanked her 20 times so far, and still no shield. I don't think the drop rate is as good as they're making it out to be. Either that, or blizz dropped it.

*Edit On my 22nd run it finally dropped.

~~Out of 32 kills, I've only seen this shield drop twice. That puts the drop rate around 6%.~~

~~35 kills. Dropped 3 times. 8% to 10% drop rate is my new guess.~~

~~36 kills. Dropped 4 times. 11% drop rate...~~

38 kills. Dropped 5 times. Puts the drop rate around 13% to 14%. So, my final analysis is that wowhead is correct and the drop is around 14%.

For tanks trying to obtain this shield, I can only suggest that besides queueing yourself for random cataclysm heroics, also try queueing specifically for Hour of Twilight once a day. This of course will guarantee that you have at least one chance a day at the shield, whereas there is no guarantee while queueing for randoms. This is how I was able to obtain this shield.

As part of the visually cohesive tank set, I've found that transmogging this shield into a Ruthless Gladiator's Shield Wall looks absolutely fantastic! :D

I've killed this boss numerous times (at least 22 at this point) and I've only seen it drop once...and a dps ninja'd it from the tank.

Actually, i think that tank was me.... =( gone trough it about 10 times looking for it and that dps ninja got it for its !"#$%& off spec

Just got ninja'ed today (a few moments ago, actually) by the pally healer. That was my first drop of this shield after 16 tries, and it was the last item that I need from Dungeon Finder. Yeah, I'm really pissed. So I suggest you guys to just give up and go to Firelands for Shard of Torment or even Dragon Soul for Blackhorn's Mighty Bulwark. Now I decided that my poor Elementium Earthguard will carry me there, it's more worth the pain.

BTW.: Report doesn't cover this kind of stuff.

Zero shield drops.

I've geared 5 toons completely in heirlooms, one in pvp heirlooms converting justice points, running this so many times.

The shield is a lie.

Its odd on this page, the drop rate is listed as 12% from asira dawnslayer, on asiras page its listed as 23%.

I like the look of this shield, as it does represent a visual image of possibly a scale from Deathwing. I like the melted elementium look over the fiery lava middle.

I wasn't expecting the drop at all, convinced I'd really never get any good drops to begin with. I had Elementium Earthguard for months (I had it transmogged to look like the War Paint Shield, the turtle's back effect). I was going to hope for the LFR shield to drop eventually, Blackhorn's Mighty Bulwark.)

I am going to keep it like this, and I have Syphon of the Nathrezim from a Black Temple run for my main hand mace (you guessed it: what I'm really carrying is Gavel of Peroth'arn).

For those who aren't getting the item to drop, I see plenty of tanks running around with Elementium Earthguard. I wonder what the odds are of getting either this shield or the Blackhorn's Mighty Bulwark are. Possibly the odds of getting the LFR Bulwark are better, since the class bonus would be added, thus eliminating anyone but another shield-wearing tank from rolling against you.

Run this instance 28 times so far I am yet to see this shield drop. I don't care that WoWHead says that the droprate is 11%. It's more like 0% or this darn boss doesn't have any shields left. Far as I am concerned I've seen NO ONE with this shield at all... and I've seen no one with the DS shield either.

Blizzard please fix the drop rate, us tanks are hurting to get our hands on a decent shield and I've been running DS and queueing up for my HoT every day, not to mention doing random after random after random to try and see this thing drop. I need it to replace the last Blue that I have.

Man I'm gonna have to start rolling for Zul'Gurub or something to try and go for the Voodoo shield or whatever.. I'm so sick of this garbage blue... drop rate is non-existent.
