After a couple of ~ 7 min runs at the training dummies. The proc appears to have a 15 sec ICD, with a 15% chance to proc. As it says, it only procs on casts, dot ticks don't seem to trigger. It is an aoe hits all targets within 6 yrds. At the time of this posting, the damage of the normal version is 8710 over 10 sec.

The damage does not scale with spell power (same numbers naked) but it can crit; no added ticks with haste tho. The damage is boosted by buffs and talents that increase nature and general damage, such as Arcane Tactics,Moonfury, Moonkin Form as well as Eclipse (Solar).

In general, as a Boomkin, I found that against a single target, the proc accounted for a 4-6% of my damage, that's about where my VPLC(normal) did in the same fight. Against a cleave target(ie a training dummy with two nearby friends) it was generally 7-8% of my damage, a little less than twice my VPLC. To be fair tho, I have not had a chance to try it in a raid 'mass of mobs' yet (locked for some reason), so I do not know how it will fair in such a setting, nor do I know if there is a cap on the number of targets, It does seem to proc off shrooms, and it appears to have no cap on # of targets, It was roughly 5% of my damage during aoe.

In general, Boomkins seem to get the most use out of it due to the buffs they get to nature damage. Still, I find it a little underwhelming. It has a low ICD, but the up-time really isn't that high. I suppose one could swap it out for AoE portions of fights, but I don't know if I'll add that into my mix; for what? maybe the 1-2 procs I'll get during an add phase? Ti'tahk, the Steps of Time, Vagaries of Time or even Scalpel of Unrelenting Agony seem like much better options, and see what happens when I finish my legendary.

For mages:

Tested procs:

Obviously all harmful spellcasts (including CoC, Ice Lance, Dragon's Breath, Blast Wave, Flame Strike)
Individual Flame Orb ticks

NOTE: this is, of course, before any +dmg buffs like the post above mentions.

It ticks for 1742 on each target affected every 2 seconds for 10 seconds. (total 8710 just like tooltip)

It hits for the same amount with and without gear on (meaning it doesn't scale with spellpower or other stats, its a static amount of damage)

It can crit on individual ticks and crits for 3476 (if every tick crit it would deal 17380 dmg to the affected target)

This DoT does not contribute to combustion for fire mages.

I'd also like to note that as of Dec 13. This DoT will no longer be place on CC'ed targets. Spells such as Polymorph, Ring of Frost, and Counterspell also have a chance to proc the DoT. But they will NOT place it on the CC'ed target. Passive DoT's such as Pyroblast and Ignite do not proc this weapon. Living bomb DoT does not appear to proc it either, but the explosion at the end does have a chance. The critical strikes from this DoT do contribute to the electrical charges on Variable Pulse Lightning Capacitor.

Just did a calculation if u can aquire this dagger + Dragonfire Orb assuming a 40 int red gem and the 40 int offhand enchant
vs Lightning Rod 516 total int 300 hit and 319 haste 2786 spellpower

with the dagger/oh combo- 561 int 2945 spellpower
a difference of 159 spellpower vs 300 hit and 319 haste rating.

im assuming lightning rod> this unless u dont need the hit/haste rating at all.

Very usefull when farming old dungeons for whatever reason.. (Cloth etc.)

Also the damage Molten Armor () deals to attackers when hit, apparently counts as a spellcast and causes Blast of Corruption (the effect of the dagger) to proc.

yes, dagger/oh is better stat-wise.
but to be more precise, it is 159 Spell power + 179 mastery vs 300 hit + 162 haste, more like a trade-off between haste and mastery.

tested it on my Shadowpriest with 10096 spell power, on the 3 target dummies, it accounted for 3.9% of my DPS. For Comparison purposes, the shadowbolt volley from the cunning of the cruel provided 12.3%.

Both trinket and weapon were LFR quality, acquired to investigate if it was worth bidding in raids.

My personal analysis is that this weapon is completely irrelevent for shadow priests in its present form.

Triggers extremely rapidly off of Mind Sear. This leads me to believe that each pulse, or perhaps each tick can trigger it. Also works when Mind Sear is centered on friendly targets. The proc is not effected by Dark Evangelism or Empowered Shadow.

Thus, for a Shadow Priest, the total proc damage will match the tooltip damage precisely, before crit-ticks. Usually clocks in at between 3% and 5% of my total damage, both on single-target and on AoE. The proc may be small, but the huge Spellpower on the weapon makes it a sizable upgrade from Ragnaros weapons.

It looks like it scales with demo meta; still %^&*ty wep compared to the mele version of it.

Still good amount of SP for a normal DS loot, but you really need the trash offhand to compete with the other weps.

I don't really know how you guys can say it doesn't scale with anything etc. and that it will hit for a total of 8710 regardless, because on my shadow priest it deals a total of (tested) 10,015 damage which is also being stated in my tooltip. When I get raidbuffed, both the damage and the tooltip increase, though I haven't really checked what exactly is increasing it, but I suspect it's simply spell power scaling it up at a very, very small rate.

I think the weapon needs a slight damage buff. Considering Gurthalak and Kiril imho being way more potent in comparison.
Or, they need to introduce, with the intention to pair it with an oh with some proc that works out to buff it somehow when they are equipped together.

As others have stated I find it underwhelming as a moonkin. I'm only using the raidfinder version since I choose not to raid otherwise, but in comparison it does make me jealous to see tentacles being the highest damage over paladin and warrior abilities. Likewise, the buff from Kiril is way more beneficial in terms of sheer dps increase.

It's not a bad weapon by any means but I'd gladly take a mob limit + damage buff over unlimited mobs and the current amt. of damage it causes. I also think the aoe should be more like starfall and unable to affect mobs out of combat. I don't think any weapon should have to be switched out because it's only beneficial as an 'aoe' weapon but in the case of this item, this seems to be more the case than not. I mean, I don't think any class would benefit from using this over the Ti'tahk (I could be wrong).

My testing results on a dummy as a moonkin:
This weapon's damage does NOT scale with anything other than spell damage and nature spell damage modifiers.
Even the tooltip on weapon changes, the tooltip on buff (Blast of Corruption) always stays as "1742 damage...", BUT the real damage it does is what weapon tooltip says plus any spell damage modifier applied on mob (e.g: Earth and Moon).
Since Total Eclipse increases damage of your nature spells within Eclipse (Solar), it also increases this weapon's damage and this is shown in weapon's tooltip.
It DOES proc from DOT ticks.
It DOES proc from Soothe and Faerie Fire.
It does NOT proc from any physical damage. Spells like Force of Nature won't trigger it.
Not tested yet, but since Thorns does nature damage, it should also trigger this weapon.

edit:
currently I am testing this weapon on bgs with 1492 mastery rating (+32% bonus dmg) and it seems it does 3572 (5519 crit) dmg per tick.

Proc alone adds ~490 dps as a class that can not increase the damage of the proc.

May not seem like much but it's way better than 300 hit rating at this raiding tier.

Note: this is without any debuffs/buffs from other classes.

On Beta, the visual effect of the weapon's proc has changed animations to look like an all green version of a Warlock's Curse of Exhaustion.

Do not roll for this against your casters but... if nobody else needs it, this is a VERY cool transmorgrification dagger for rogues.
