Soundcloud also not loading for me any help would be good
Those kinds of interviews are my favourite, to see the person behind all of that, humans are much more interesting than spreadsheets.
Your legacy shall forever endure, your name shall be remembered unto eternity's end, you have brought so much joy to my childhood & countless others, thanks to you I could never have enjoyed such fine moments on the PC,We shall always remember you fondly, each time I play my Shaman for Horde & my Paladin for Alliance you will be there for me, a teach & a mentor, farewell of friend & may you find piece in you retirement!
The interview with Chris Metzen only made my love and respect for him grow. He's a brave, genuine man that I wish I could call my friend. I'd love to hang out with him and play Warhammer with. He's a man who deserves peace of mind and peace of body, he has given so much of himself for our enjoyment.I was sad and heartbroken in the first half of the interview, because I feel no person should go through the hardships that comes with anxiety and panic attacks, but the fact that he spoke up about his experience with anxiety and coming through it gives me hope that more people will get help and will learn to set their own health first.Much love and respect to you, Chris. You and Blizzard have given me so many good memories throughout my life and I hope for all the best to you and yours.
I know I'm gonna get dislikes for posting about this topic... but the audio really hits home with me and some of my coworkers.I work as Quality Assurance on private servers, have worked there for a few years now. Started working when I was 19, was underestimating myself all of the time and pushing myself to the point where it was affecting my health and daily life. Tons of panic attacks, insomnia for weeks at a time and being sick all the time forced me to take a leave from work. I do not doubt that Chris will be returning in some way working on World of Warcraft, be it as just a voice actor or advisor to the new team. Its just stronger than a man when you play/work on a game so long. I am so glad that someone of his caliber has opened himself up to his problems and informed people that they are not alone in their problems, others have the same issues and try to deal with them alone. If work will cost you your health you should step down, unwind, take a few breaths and then return if you see it fit. I am now back to work and uni, working on my own game in my free time all because I opened up to my family about my issues and asked for help. You do not have to shoulder your issues alone, talk to people, let them help you out. Holding things like that alone and for yourself will just wear you out even more
I love this guy. So much heart, so much personality, so much passion. He was a regular guy like the rest of us, and subject to the stress of his position. Very glad he is taking what must be a very difficult step - there are those who don't recognize impending burnout until it is too late.I'm sure he is not alone in his dedication to the game and to us as customers. I tend to cut Blizzard some slack when it comes to the design of the game, and the efforts they have made this expansion to iterate, listen to feedback, and remain communicative have been excellent. I think as a community it behooves us to to provide constructive feedback and not devolve into whining and complaining over trivial things - hence why I have little sympathy for people who tend to complain incessantly and over things that really do not deserve the time to do so.The devs are people too - and the stress and pressure of providing us a rich entertainment experience is something that rests on many of them. I hope people get an insight into that through this. Thanks for the post, Perc.
Going to miss Chris ALOT! He is a legend in my Eyes. =)Take care and hope you have an awsome life in the future Chris. =D
I will be forever a "Metzen-head", You will be forever honored and missed Chris. We love you!
Detailing this interview with your experiences Chris, it is beyond helpful. You and Scott were right on the money. There are loads and loads of us out here who have ridden this wave and "feared" what would happen next. Thank you SOOOO much for bringing out into the "sanitization" of day. We forever love you Chris. God bless you and your family sir. *Hugs*.
This was Chris Metzen bearing his innermost feelings... I so get this, as this also happened to me. I was fortunate enough to retire from "corporate America" September 30th, 2000. AMEN Chris Metzen <3 <3
respect to metzen, but however this is not uncommon, iam not american but from what is known is that many big companies there demand more than is possible from their people
I am hopeful that as Metzen's kid grows up, he'll want to come back. Allen Adham came back, so maybe the same can happen with Chris. I'm just worried that Samwise and Mike, might get a little family jealous and do the same thing.
I have to say, thank you so much for this frank and heartfelt interview. Much respect to you Chris Metzen, for sharing your vulnerabilities as a creative individual, a respected Blizz employee, and a family man. Thanks for your story, and connecting us to the guy behind what the fans usually see.
