Today, we are looking at the DPS rankings during the week of December 26th for Phase 1 of Season of Discovery in Blackfathom Deeps. For this analysis, we will use data provided by
Warcraft Logs Blackfathom Deeps statistics
.
Warcraft Logs' Blackfathom Deeps Statistics
Disclaimers and Source
The data for this article was taken from the
Blackfathom Deeps Statistics Page on Warcraft Logs
. We will be looking at data for the 95th percentile, plus showing the overall results to paint a better picture.
The idea of this article is to give a perspective of the current state of class balance for Season of Discovery, meaning this is an
incomplete picture of Phase 1 balance
.
We say perspective, as there are inherent biases in looking at the data this way.
Specs considered underpowered are generally played less and tend to appear weaker than they are.
This happens as many performance-oriented players tend to play the strongest spec or class, increasing the gap between top and bottom specs even further.
Position of specs for the 95th percentile might be skewed by alternative strategies and parse funneling. We're including the chart showing all percentiles' results to paint a better picture for all specs.

Surprising that rogue is top on overall damage, without having a single aoe ability, I wonder if thats because all top "pumpers" slacking on trash
rogues apparently top on boss damage not overall

Is there only one viable DPS warlock spec? Is that why it's not broken out by affliction/destruction (like mage is broken out by arcane/fire)?
because at current you have exactly 16 talent points so there's only really 1 viable dps build due to how low powered early trees can be. Lock has this issue while there are more than 1 Mage build that is viable.
Locks best talents you wont start seeing until closer to 40 opening up more build variety(runes excluded)
The thing about mage trees specifically.
All 3 trees have very useful passives to deal with hit/crit/cast time/mana early. And all 3 specs will dip into eachother even at endgame for some of those talents. Its one of the only fully rounded out classes this early in terms of damage balance.

The charts list rogue as top for both
Rogues have dots in terms of bleed and poison. If you know the class and can manage combat points you can spread the damage around. Thats more or less true with lots of specs. Its all about target priority and not wasting your actions if you lack true aoe

Why are people obsessing over damage numbers in a level 25 10-man dungeon, none of this matters even slightly and complaining about balance when none of the classes have complete kits yet is very silly.
Balance enough to be able to do content with X class is needed and well some was warranted without that. Many classes hunters specifically (sorry) they scale exceptionally well both with damage and pets in the early game in classic/vanilla. We are capped at 25 for like 3-4 months. Long time to have runaway specs especially when it comes to ashenvale pvp, pvp realms and bgs. We also dont need unintentional forced comps. If we werent capped at 25 or X level Id agree but you seem to not get the point of how SoD works or how avoiding any balance in these phases before we reach full cap actually hurts SoD and will kill it before we reach that phase.

And yet we still have warriors crying that hunters need more nerfs.....
get over yourself, everyone is "crying" for hunter nerfs. Except for hunters.
More warrior tears. Play classic era if you want to always be vanilla's special snowflake.
You misunderstand, I am not crying about hunters being nerfed, I don't really mind. But the cries out there ARE for hunters to be nerfed and those cries ARE based in reality.

This phase has actually been the most diverse I think we'll see Warlock until level 50. Next phase we're going to be locked tight into at least 30 points in destruction as the tree is just way too good with great fire based runes currently. It would take a very powerful new rune to shake us from this course. Phase 2 will have no variety in spec if things stay as is. Once we get to 50, we'll have some extra points to throw around, and we'll see some variety again.

At 25 level there are not certain talents that will tell people what spec they are playing. Why there is only one warlock spec is that everything else than Incenerate does pitiful damage and hence every warlock is playing with Incinerate. As to where mages will have either Arcane Blast, Fireball or Frostbolt as their main damage contribuer in the logs.
