Found this today, has a nice visual graph of how each stat affects DPS by spec:

hehe, i do love a good graph - it's one of the things that makes simcraft so appealing.
in this case though, i don't really see what we gain from seeing the information in graph form. since the
x
axis isn't a continuous variable there's no flow.
i hate to say it but, in this case, i think tables beat graphs >.<

only one curse can be cast by any single warlock. in that sense all curses cancel each other out.
if you mean which debuffs don't stack with our curses (like a death knight's ebon plague not stacking with curse of elements) we have a specific curse guide which i linked in my curse section which should go into all the depth you need on that question.
i will, however, make a note of the fact that curses don't stack with other class's debuffs to make sure that point is noted. thanks for the input.

i've added an index at the start.
i just want to reiterate my request for input on this project. if you think of a question that, literally, gets asked frequently that hasn't been covered please do let me know.
edit: also done some general tidying up and adding tooltip links to as many items as i can.

aha! link fail!
yes, when i added tooltip lnks to all those abilities i forgot to close the tag so you currently see corruption if you mouseover a 'greater than' sign >.<
thanks for pointing this out!

Good Day Asakawa!
I have a level 18 Warlock.. Yes Im a noob to 'locks. Obviously I have been reading thru your FAQ (among other guides) and found I didnt understand a couple things under: Q: What's the rotation for x build?
Affliction = shadow bolt > haunt > Corruption > unstable affliction > curse of agony > (SB filler and refresh DoTs)*
Um.. Initials are an absolute pain to a newbie.. we dont have a clue as to what you mean. What does SB mean?
*After 25% target health, drop SB and use Drain soul as the filler spell.
**After 35% target health, use soul fire on decimation procs.
Um.. is that 25/35% health left, or down by that much (At 75%/65%)? And there's that SB again. :|
Thank you... Has be great to find up to date FAQ! ;)
Peace.. Lynlee

I'll answer your questions, in hopes asakawa may be clarifying some of that within his FAQ soon.

SB means Shadow Bolt.

25/35% health left.

thanks kangi and thanks lynlee.
you're absolutely right, we get so used to throwing these abbreviations around that we forget that newer readers won't understand them. an FAQ like this definitely needs to be easily understood by new players like yourself so i'll go in an fix those.
a good section for this thread might be a glossary of abbreviations. i'm going to put some obvious ones in but please, anyone, chip in with any common warlocky abbreviations that i miss.
Post by
Kangi
"CoD" and "Meta" would be welcome additions to the glossary of abbreviations.
Post by
asakawa
lol, how could i miss CoD >.<
thanks, will do.

Glossaries are hard work. "
DE
" is also pretty frequently used.

Bah, instead of making so many new posts to contribute to the glossary, here's a whole LOAD of them! (though some may be unnecessary)
BD = Backdraft
CB = Chaos Bolt
CF/Con = Conflagrate
Immo = Immolate
CD = Cooldown
CR/Corr = Corruption
DD = Direct damage
DPCT = Damage-per-cast-time
DPET = Damage-per-execute-time
GCD = Global Cooldown
Succi = Succubus (pet)
MC = Molten Core
RoF = Rain of Fire
SoC = Seed of Corruption
HF = Hellfire
Go = Glyph of, followed by the glyph name. (i.e. GoLifeTap)
I'm sorry, but /smack you for forgetting this one:
DPS = Damage-per-second, a measure of damage done

asakawa
ok, the abbreviations were getting a bit out of hand at the start of the FAQ so i moved them to their own section at the end.

nit-picky is good. if we're getting to the nit picky stage then that suggests that it's in good shape overall.
i originally tried to do things in order of importance or frequency of being asked but as it's grown this has just become messy so you're right about some more sensible grouping. i'll look into some shuffling next time i have a decent chunk of time i can give to it (probably monday).

MUCH Thanks Asakawa & ALL for the Glossary section! It will not only help newbie Warlocks, but folks new to the game as well.
Now, one more question and I will be out of your hair.. :) My play style is TOTALLY solo thru the entire game doing quests. I do not PvP nor do I enjoy the high stress of RAIDs. Since that is the case, Im certain some of the talents, I will not need and others I will. Yes you guessed it. Im trying to find a Talent build that would be appropriate to my play style. IE: Keep minion and myself alive with efficient mana management. I have read about all the talents & skills. Unfortunately, I do not understand the synergy between them. So picking which ones has become a very chancy task. Currently Im following along in Kappajoe's Guide. It is geared to leveling. It seems the more I read, the more questions I have, and the more confused I get about the appropriate Affliction paths.. Some talk about Tanking several foes.. ::blink:: can we? haha So, if you have a favorite guild that has helped you or know where I could go to compare/select a talent build, I would greatly appreciate hearing from you.
Peace... Lynlee

um, well, when "levelling" is discussed with regards to specs and rotations that
means
soloing. as such, kappajoe's guide seems to cover most of the important points.
as for pulling groups, it's all about siphon life. get as much spellpower as you can - you're aiming for enough that corruption and CoA will kill an equal level mob on their own - and spam your instants on as many mobs as you can. use Howl of Terror if things get on top of you and drain life from the mob with the highest health.

Good Day Asakawa!
I know that was difficult question to answer since you put so very much into your FAQ! OH Gads I love it. I hit every link to see if it offered something significant for my play style. ALL had some tasty little tidbits at the least, a few REALLY helpful like Blightmans guide on Talent rating! :) I have much to digest.
Thank you so much for your tips on managing mobs. Its not only the matter of which talents, stats, and armor, but HOW to fight efficiently thats difficult for noobs. IE: Tactics
Peace.. Lynlee
