Energizer™ Smite Spec: A guide to faster priest leveling!
Return to board index

chiv, you should update WWS link, it got expired: here's the new one:
http://wowwebstats.com/nm5qaw2qvp26k
EDIT: found out devouring plague isn't worth using, just SW:P at dps'ing, as it does low damage. Also, to the guy who is wondering my rotation, it looks like a priority list:
Holy Fire> Devouring Plague > Smite.
Don't use devouring plague if holy fire debuff is up, you want to use smite during that time. Also use Power infusion just before casting Holy Fire.

And I'm also curious to see this spec evolve as Cataclysm kicks in! All that healer gear with SP or MP5 is supposed to convert those to Int and Spi... that's good for us alien priest right?
Can't wait for my W.H.S.S. ! (Worgen Hybrid Smite Spammer)
<^^_^^>
Fun as it may be to imagine Cataclysm now, it's still too early to speculate. Remember, Blizzard already told us that they intend to re-design the talent trees for all classes. In addition to that, no one can bet they will leave the spells themselves intact. I'm pretty much sure many will be reworked.
Personally, I view Cataclysm as a complete new game altogether. The amount of changes planned for it is immense. WoW's history hasn't seen an overhaul of
that
magnitude yet.

i love this build, i have no mana problems at all so im now holy and now at the point of putting in Disc talents.
I can be in top 3 damage in BG's and be top healing at the same time while having the most Killing blows at lvl 28 (just dinged 29 in last BG i did yesterday)
Other lvl 22 priest asked me if lvl above 26 and higher is more fun ?
I said it is, go to wowhead.com and look up the energizer priest build and enjoy the ride.

I'm using this build and it's pretty good. I can easily kill any other player (around my level) who dare attacking me. I have a lvl 53 Blood Elf priest. I keep killing creep from 50 to 55 without stopping, not even for drinking. The secret is the Arcane torrent trait which give me back 6% of mana each 3min and elexir. When having like 3-4 mob, sometime I need a mana potion but it's pretty rare.
Seriously this spec is great with Elexir of Greater Intellect and Greater Arcane Elexir. The first one give +25 int. so more mana and more crit. The second is +35 SP and +10 crit rating. I'm doing crit like crazy and I'm having a lot of "free" spell with the use of Surge of light. Since I'm an alchemist, I can make those potion for free and they last 2h instead of 1h.
Good hunting

For me leveling as Shadow is best thing ever, When u get Shadow Form and Vampiric touch I could kill 20 mobs without having a break to drink...
Before I read this thread, I was specced disc, and I could kill
infinite mobs
. Now that I've read this thread, I've slightly re-specced, got the glyph of smite, and now I can kill infinite mobs, 8 seconds at a time. They're dead before Holy Fire is even off cooldown. Admittedly I do wear mostly blues (I have absolutely pummeled the low-level dungeons plus I have a PvP cloak).
And yes I also run dungeons (as DPS), stand between the tank and the mob and spam Holy Nova ad infinitum. It gives people the sh!ts but I always come second for DPS
and
second for healing, with
no
downtime (I find that tanks always have the most DPS in low-level dungeons anyway.)
The only time I need to drink is when I end up pulling 3 or more mobs, and in those situations I'd rather be disc anyway for defensive abilities.
Yes, I have tried shadow. I got all excited about how huge my DPS was going to be, then headed out to Stranglethorn for a grinding session. Using Vampiric Embrace I was down to 1/2 health and oom within 2 mobs. My DPS was also atrocious (mind flay is terrible, and even 5.5 seconds was too long to wait for mind blast). I have a mate who is a 70 priest, shadow atm, and he's loving it. I'm sure I will too eventually, but at 33, Smite Spec is where it's at.

35 now and finally 3/3 meditation.
I tried shadow to and that's not for me until im higher lvl.
Im loving this build, i might keep on using it till 80 or just buy dual spec.
How's the Holy DPS going in raids ?
Latest update was 3.5k dps or so which is kinda nice ;)

Thanks for all the positive comments.
I've done some re-writing to the guide, for better structuring and to add some of your good points into it as well. Hopefully it will be a better reading now.

The spec reaches its maximum at Level 52. It now looks like
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#bVcbhZfxt0bbabZh:u
, and you can't really do anything to improve the efficiency of your Smiting any more. (Bar Inner Focus, you know the drill.)
its 53, you forgot a point in SG you can add;)
thx for the good guide anyway since i found shadow lacking good in old world

You're welcome.
Personally, I used the build all the way until Northrend, then just dualspecced at 68 to try shadow out. Some people posted here about going all the way to 80 - the fact it did 3k dps in a raid suggests that it's perfectly viable. Something like
this
should float the boat.

Thanks for the guide! Used it until 40, where I duel specced shadow to see what the mana usage was like.
This build was great though, although it's really boring the 20- stage, gets better though :b

That's just the way Priests are designed, for some reason. You don't get any fun Shadow spells before level 20, either.

True story. Pre-20s just suck, plain and simple.

My priest is now 35 and some feedback I feel is in order.
This thread has done wonders for post-20 leveling, and I've made a few changes to my own leveling spec that I thought would help others. Personally, I felt my mana regeneration was too slow and decided to nerf my own damage to add some utility. By speccing
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#bVcbhZ0xxZh
to get Improved Inner Fire and Meditation, my survivability and mana regen is damn near unlimited and I find myself very rarely needing to drink while solo leveling. I also tried a purer form of Discipline,
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#bVcbuhhboZZh
, which
It is worth mentioning that at Lv35 with appropriate level greens and Inner Fire, glyphed and talented, I've got over 2k armor which amounts to about 35%+ damage reduction. Discipline, especially for newer characters, will afford a good amount of survivability through some key talents.
Ultimately, I've settled on
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent#bVcbhZbhxZh
for the mana regen. It also lends itself to aoe grinding using more shadow word: pain through Twin Disciplines, high armor, powerful shields, and high mana regen. In addition, it serves me better in battlegrounds for the same reasons, allowing me to do a fair bit of damage while being a primary healer.
