Right now, it's useless in PvE. To make it useful I would change it to 'All damage' and boost the percentage to 20% or so. Then at least it would be slightly useful in the many ulduar aoe fights.

nice idea for pve... but transfer that over to pvp.... 20% flat damage reduction to a class who has bubbles, wears plate and all the other things holy pallies hav going for them. 20% would be a ridiculous buff to pvp holydins.
As for the talent changing i'm not exactly sure but if you are hit my an AoE attack at the moment, is that an attack made against you? if it is then what kevin said is already in, as usualy Blizz's working being less than clear...

First, I'm not positive but based off the wording my guess is it would be direct attacks or spells.
Second, it's not 20% flat damage reduction. It would be 20% chance to cause half damage. So it would average out to every 5th attack you would take half damage. So, as an example:
1st: 1,000
2nd: 1,000
3rd: 1,000
4th: 1,000
5th: 500 (halved from 1,000)
You're taking 4,500 instead of 5,000. This is a 10% reduction. That would be situationally helpful in raids and could be a good use of 3 points. Also I don't pvp much and rarely arena so no clue on whether this would be op for pvp.

I don't mind talents which are only really useful in PvP. Every class has them. I do mind that it's of very dubious value* for even PvP. If it did something similar to
Astral Shift
, it would be far more useful as a pvp talent. (I'm not saying a carbon copy, but something along those lines).
*Because on average it should work out to be a flat 5% damage reduction talent, but because of it's nature, it could work out to be a lot more or a lot less depending on shear luck.

What would you propose to give up in a pve spec to get blessed life?
Nothing. It's worse than everything else you take in all the cookie cutters as far as I know. Certainly the 51/0/18+2 spec. If you're taking direct damage as a healer it's either joke damage (spiders from crypt fiend's corpse on Anub'Rekhan for example) or you're doing something wrong, and from the wording I assume it only affects direct damage.

Ah ha. I guess I'm not so good at picking up tone of voice over the internet while I'm tired. Nevermind me then.
