Jewelcrafting on the 3.2 PTR

I poked around a bit on the 3.2 PTR this morning and thought I'd pass along some info for any curious parties.
First thing I did on the PTR was prospect 140 Titanium Ore I had saved up recently. That's 28 prospects at 5 ore each, which I know is a small sample size, but it was all I had. Anyway, the results were:
- 28 (100%) of the prospects had one or two uncommon (green text) gems.
- 17 (60.7%) of the prospects had one or two Titanium Powder.
- 8 (28.5%) of the prospects had an epic (purple text) gem.
- 6 (21.4%) of the prospects had a rare (blue text) gem.
What's this?
Titanium Powder?
This is a new item that can be turned in to Timothy Jones (The Jewelcrafting Trainer) in Dalaran for Jewelcrafter's tokens. 10x Titanium Powder = 1 token. It can be repeated. I don't know if Titanium Powder has any other uses.
The new epic gem cuts are purchased from Timothy Jones and not the vendor that currently sells cuts for tokens. There are a total of
72
epic gem cuts that can be purchased with JC tokens, and they all cost 5 tokens each.
Here is a list of the different epic gems, and how many cuts each one has
that can be purchased for tokens
:
- Eye of Zul = Green (19 cuts)
- Cardinal Ruby = Red (8 cuts)
- Majestic Zircon = Blue (4 cuts)
- King's Amber = Yellow (6 cuts)
- Dreadstone = Purple (13 cuts)
- Ametrine = Orange (22 cuts)
To give one example of how the new epic gems stack up, a Delicate Scarlet Ruby gives 16 Agility, and a Delicate Cardinal Ruby gives 20 Agility.
I had Delicate Dragon's Eyes in my gear, and they changed from 27 Agility to 34 Agility in 3.2. Additionally, they are NOT prismatic anymore, as my meta gem was not activated due to my three Delicate Dragon's Eyes counting as red gems, along with the rest of the gems in my gear all being red as well.
Other sources for epic gems are:
- Alchemist transmutes (There's another thread here with that info)
- Dalaran Jewelry vendor, 15 Emblems of Heroism each
- 10k honor each (replacing the rare gems on the vendor, apparently, at least on the PTR)
I hope this satisfies the curiosity of some Jewelcrafters. I know these are things I was itching to know. :) Of course being the PTR, and the first day of it no less, all of this is subject to change.

Thanks so much for putting this up, i planned on buying stacks of titanium ore but I wasn't sure if it was worth it, but from what I can tell it is. I'd like to get it now so it's much cheap, because of less demand than it will be after this patch.
I have a question though, I don't know if it can be answered though. I was going to make icy prisms everyday and save them until after the patch so when I open them I have a chance to get epic gems, will that work or will it still supply the pre-patch gems?

I have no idea about the Icy Prisms. I completely forgot they said epic gems would have a chance to come out of those too in 3.2. Since I didn't make any before copying my character, I have no way of knowing. I'll probably just save the mats and make them after 3.2 anyway though. If I make any. I'll have to try making a few on the PTR and see how many epic gems come out.
I'm mainly planning to continue mining and save much more Titanium Ore before the patch hits, myself. Titanium Ore prices on the AH have already gone up by 200%+ on my realm from what I've noticed, so I'm glad I'm a miner. I'm not going to be buying any, that's for sure. I do wish I hadn't sold like 10 stacks of Titanium Ore the week before the patch info came out though. :P

Lol yeah that sounds like it sucks, I never looked at the cost before, but a stack of titanium Ore goes for 130g or so on my server, I'm sure I can buy some stacks for 100g. Seeing that Scarlet Rubys are selling for 85-120g on my server I'm sure the epic gems will go for a lot, so I'm going to go ahead and assume it's worth it. As for the Icy Prisms I think I'll just buy some Frozen Orbs while they are someone cheap and just save up the mats until the patch comes out, I'd rather not make the risk of the Icy Prisms not giving epic gems.
I really like the idea of the powder, getting 1 token per day took too long, I've been saving some for some new recipes.
Also if the Dragon's Eyes aren't prismatic anymore how does it work? Is it just it's the color of the normal named gem but more powerful type thing (like Delicate=Red socket, Solid=Blue socket, Rigid=Yellow socket)?

...im not sure how they will become un-prismatic, maybe once they are socketed in a yellow slot (for example) they become yellow...?
Not quite...a Rigid D.E. will be treated as a yellow gem no matter where you socket it, the same way a Rigid Autumn's Glow is yellow. Then if you put it in a yellow socket, you're eligible for the socket bonus.
I'd like to know what will become of meta gems... if anythingThe D.E. gems are now going to be treated as yellow or red or blue, depending on the stat on the gem. Then metas will be activated (or not) based on the presence of the appropriate gem colors. So a single D.E. will only count as one color, not three. Same as regular gems, just with bigger stat values.

I'm guessing that they will remain socketed, but will be treated as if they were yellow gems, so you won't get any socket bonus if the color doesn't match. But I'm not on the PTR; just an educated guess.
