Everyone keeps saying that the Deathknight is the only "hero" class. Which confuses me a bit as they said its the only one because it was a hero in warcraft.
But im pretty sure that goes for pretty much every class?
Im not really sure what the definition of hero class is so i was wondering if someone could please fill me in that would be great.
Didnt know where to post this but i geussed that i would getter a better response from the RP and lore guys rather than the rest of the forums.
Thanks.

Seems like the biggest reason the DK is considered a hero class......is cause you start at level 55(58 by the time your finished the starting area quests). Also, its like you said, the Death Knight's were a "hero" class in warcraft 3. Hopefully, we'll eventually see Archmages, Archbishop's and the like. Or if we're really lucky, they'll set it up so that hero classes can grow out of the talent trees: Druid after level 60 can change up and become an Archdruid, open's up a whole new talent tree in addition to your current ones.

That would be good about the Archdruid, Archmages etc. sort of like choosing Goblin or Gnome in engineers.
Ok so that answers my question pretty much but does that make the shamans etc a hero class as well?

No, because the shamans have been around forever. The class based for Thrall is a little different then normal shamans, they were called Farseer's, even though the spells are identical to WoW based shamans. For the games I've played, WC2 and 3, never played WC1 Orcs vs Humans, they've always had the basic caster class called shaman. I think Blizzard is only counting the actual Hero Units as the base for upcoming Hero Classes. I could be wrong of course.

We're probably not going to see Brewmaster even, its... well... too much like the Cooking Skill.
I'm hoping for maybe a Dark Ranger Class, or perhapes a Sea Witch/Warlock or whatever.

actually to clarify things, Death Knights are called hero class for a diferent reason.
the main one, is that while all other classes have a starting gear of 0 bags, no cash, only 3 (or 4) white items, and lvl 1.
while a Death Knight starts at lvl 55, with 20 silver, 4 bags of 10 slots each, a full set of green plate, and by the time they leave the enclave, they have up to 50g, a full set of blue armor and sword, lvl 58.
also do take in consideration their starting quests, as one of the devs of blizz said in an interview, a hero class is called hero because they have an heroic beggining.
u asked why a shaman is not a hero class? humm, an orc shaman how does it starts? killing rabble in durotar, and quelling small skirmishes.
a human paladin also starts as a nobody in nortshire killing low-time bandits and =O kobolds.
how does a Death Knight starts? by waging a full-scale war agaisnt the scarlet crusade, by atacking and utterly destroying a full enclave, decimating an entire army of knights, and participating in a siege against light's hope chappel commading 10000 units to kill it's 300 defenders (movie 300 FTW) and not to mention being trained, empowered, and betrayed by the lich king himself.
so there it is, that's the reason DK's are hero classes, they have an epic start, while the other 9 classes start as nobody's loosers, poor, with nothing, and have to work their asses out to be someone of fame and recognition, DK's from the start already are famous (from lore of course) and powerfull and stuff.
I'm assuming the newer hero classes will have an epic beginning too, otherwise they can't be called "hero class".
of course one thing the devs clearly stated is "DK's have epic beginning, but are NOT more powerfull than the base class" wich is something they are keen on reminding us wiht an endless rain of nerfs in every single frikking patch U.U

I remember watching Blizzcon when they were announcing the Death Knight and one of the classes they hadnt put it was Necromancer. So it "might" be a possibility of a hero class in the future.
