well today i saw a pally tank with reckoning and was gonna try and tell him how those points would be better spent else where but then i remembered the upcoming changes to seal of vengeance and it got me thinking. with the changes to SoV in 3.2 could reckoning become viable again?
im just wondering what all of you think about it =)

Why would it?
I see no reason at all for it to become viable for end game tanking.

I think that it's far too early to make any estimation.
Will Reckoning be a stronger talent? Yes. But it was already way behind Conviction/Crusade and SotP for threat. Unless the stars align just right, you'll still most likely be better off skipping it or using it as a filler.

Seal weaving with SoC and SoV every 1.5 rotations to keep the debuff up.
If SoC does just as much damage as SoB, add on the 33% increased damage from the SoV debuff, against 1 opponent, 5/5 gives you 26% uptime, right? (26% * melee dps + 26% * SoC procs associated with melee dps) * 133% due to SoV debuff....
Previously, Reckoning just gave you the melee dps, since SoV doesn't add any significant benefit once they're on max stacks. Now, with the debuff, if you seal weave, then you get the SoC benefit too (assuming that you're willing to spend 1 point in SoC at the expense of 1% crit).

What I haven't seen is a comparison between Command and Vengeance in the new patch. Or between Command and Righteousness. And I am too busy to make one... :(

Obviously, Reckoning combined with SoV is going to be better than it is now. Will it be worth the 5/5?
I think it's more a matter of, is it "wrong" to do 5/5? Are those talent points much better spent elsewhere? And if so, how much better? Because as Marller pointed out -- part of it is simply preference. You don't have to PERFECTLY min/max everything to go through progression -- if that were the case, I know a LOT of people who should never have made it through Naxx, let alone Ulduar. :P
EDIT:
I wonder can reckoning procs crit? If so imagine doing 5k dmg in 3secs as prot:)
They're extra weapon swings, so I'm pretty sure they're completely capable of criticals.

Also the uptime difference of 3/5 reckoning VS 5/5 reckoning is quite small, so it's better not to fill it and use the remaining talent points elsewhere. (Crusade for example will give you a lot more threat than reckoning per point)
That's very very very dependant on what you're tanking and how much avoidance you got.
If you're tanking as much as 10 mobs (we havn't seen T9 content yet) you'll see an increase of 29.6% when going from 3/5 to 5/5 reckoning (assuming 50% avoidance, no parry haste and a 1.6 speed weapon).
And an increase of 66.66..% if you're only tanking one mob (same assumptions as before).
The less avoidance you have the better it's going to be but unless pala threat is nerfed to a critical level we wont be spending points in reckoning. And even then there's probably going to be better places to put the points (crusade anyone?).
Not going to give you all the numbers because I can't be assed.
Why would you? We've already done that for you

Seal weaving died in 3.0 mate.
Yes, but that doesn't mean it can't be justifiably pulled from the dead.
Going to see if I can find some time to experiment in the PTR this week. Not looking promising though...
