Get to 80, run some heriocs, friend people who seem friendly and/or good, and ask about their guilds. Little bit of trial and error.
Personally, the guild I'm in now recruited me through trade, and it worked out rather well actually. (I haven't been on in a few months though and I think they died without me :P)

Run pugs, if you find a group of people whose playstyle you like, ask about their guild.
I was running some people through Uldaman on my DK, got invited to join the guild, and I did. Then the GM of that guild (his leveling alt is the GM) got into a raiding guild on his main (80 DK). I asked if they wanted any more hunters, and he got my hunter an invite to the guild.
So, just run pugs, stuff like that usually works itself out. You just have to be patient.

Highly unnecessary thread. This is like asking how you find friends IRL.

From what i've seen, nicalapegus is great at making useless posts.

This is how I found my guild: ran with a tank and healer in flawless heroic run. "Can I join your guild?"
Profit.

Reading these responses is like listening to someone describe how to assemble a Lego toy.

I've usually been recruited, or I've saw a recruitment post on the official forums for the server I wish to play on.
Asking guilds with a good reputation if they're recruiting for a raiding slot, or friend rank (to prove your skill in their offnight runs) could be another way of finding a good guild. It's probably better this way, you get to test the guild outside of a raid to see if you'll fit in.
The main factor in finding a guild is your class. Roll a healer and you can get a guild easily. Pick a generic melee dps, *cough**cough*Deathknight*cough*, your chances are slim.
