Rogue or Mage?

Hello, everyone. I'm considering which class I need to roll--Mage or Rogue. I haven't ever really played either so I have a few questions.
Which has better survivability, and how would you rate it's survivability on a scale of 1 - 10, with ten being "It may as well be a paladin..."
Which puts out higher sustained DPS in Heroics and raids? Also, which does better burst for PvP?
Which levels faster?
Which is more complicated? Rotation for PvE and PvP-skill.
And finally, which do you consider more fun to play over-all?
Thanks to anyone who takes the time to help me out!

No no, this is the place. Its just about everyone and their grandma make posts about these. Most people will just say "try em both and see what you like", but eh, I'm bored. Lets see here.
If your mage is frost, its survivability is amazing. Probably a 10 yes. Rogues? You screw up on anything, you're dead.
Sustained dps is a tough one. I've seen amazing Arcane mages in both PvE and PvP, but I've also seen rogues. Its probably an equal thing here.
Depends. Mages are slow leveling until you get farther into the trees, and for rogues its about average leveling. Frost mages you can AoE pull for any quest saying, "Kill x of y and come back to me" where rogues are solo killers. Fire tree is better 1v1and kills crazy fast but not mana efficient, and most people stay away from arcane for leveling until 64, for arcane blast.
Rogues are probably more complicated for both. They have a lot of "depends one the situation" issues for PvP, where as a mage, Arcane is pure burst, drilling them down as fast as you can at the cost of most of your mana, while Frost is lining up that shatter combo.
Personally, I like my mage, I've never full been able to get into my rogue.
But that's just me. =P

Thanks for responding, Hole. I've been kinda of leading towards mage and I think you just pushed me over the top. Currently I have a Lv80 elemental shaman that I enjoy quite a bit but his survivability is low (In PvP). Perhaps I'm just bad at my shaman, but I don't think so.

Na Shaman have been fail for awhile now. Blizz has no love for them it would seem.
But! With 3.2 they're getting buffed quite a bit. So don't give up on him yet.

I haven't, but in a game populated by paladins I need something that can at least... give me a chance.

Thats what you'll be getting.
A nice and well deserved buff. An idk if its mentioned in the post, but Shammy are also getting a 7% hp increase I think. Something along those lines.

Those changes, in my opinion, are much deserved and will do a lot to solve our issues. Especially if that 7% HP increase comes through. The totem thing is a God-send. I imagine it will increase DPS significantly. I can't tell you how many times a boss moves around and continuously gets out of my totem's range, whether it's Searing, Wrath or if he just moves me and my caster friends away from the Wrath of Air totem.

next FOTM will be shaman, but i cannot stand shaman, my two chars are both rogue and mage;
endgame a mage shines, but from 1 to 79 a mage is pretty gimped in terms of PVP they are free kills,
i hate the concept but i deal with it, it annoys me to no end, because you have to wait until you get the gear and then suddenly you are able to compete with others in pvp.
PVE a mage shines a lot more than a rogue, everyone has a rogue, no one wants to be a food vendor and portal giver,
right now i have both chars to 80 and still cannot decide, the rogue ive spent most my time on, have cooking grinded up, been through a lot more, but my mage is a lot more fun in terms of PVP, a lot more options than a simple ambush + mut combo.
rogues get no respect, a good mage always gets respect.
but with a mage you have to try 100x more than any other class to get kills, and to do the dps most classes do out of the box (like a paladin 7 lvls under me doing 5x my DPS in 2 seconds)

I have to say that rogues can not aoe til reach lv80.
And aoe is a part of fun here, a nova a blizar. you shall have a big fun. Once you got invisibility, even more fun u ll taste.
Yet not rogue is not bad. They has the abilities of run as well as druid even more. once you got cos and blind, A kidney or gouge, either cos then vanish. But they are pointless if a lv80 ganks you lol.
