Ulduar as Elemental...

Hello there. I'm just curious if someone can explain some things to me. I recently leveled my third eighty and already had a protection paladin and a holy priest so I never did much thought about DPS meters. Granted I knew that people under 2K were terrible, but usually their gear was also terrible and so I just assumed it was a gear problem. Now getting to my point...
A friend of mine had an Ulduar PUG on Kologarn with a rogue pulling 1.2K DPS in PvP epics mostly. I had been running some test dummy tests and working with my gear. My shaman as elemental just hit eighty yesterday so his gear sucks, horribly. The link is

I was pulling around 2K DPS all around with 2.2K or so on bosses. My question is, are shamen less gear dependant or was I maybe just doing something right? I believe I am hit capped with talents assuming spell hit cap is 8% like physical damage cap is. (Capped by talents and Draenei racial only) I have begun to wonder if you can break 2K on any class just by knowing what you're doing.
And yes I know my shaman has a piece or two of resto gear on. And yes I know 2K isn't much at all. I'm just trying to make my point.

Since the armory seems to be down, I can't comment on your gear. Shamans (elemental, that is) are indeed less gear dependant - you're right about that.
However, the hitcap is 17% for casters. You can get 3% from talents, 1% from your racial, and 3% from priest and moonkin-debuffs. So, all in all, you need 10% hit from your items. Seems fairly hard at start to achieve, but it gets alot easier later on.
Could you try and do your spec on the Wowhead talent-calculator, so we can comment on that? :)

Sorry about that had no idea the armory was down for maitenance day. Hmm I think I see an error in my own spec because I don't have Booming Echoes which is a lot better than Reverberation, but here it is

I would recommend moving the 5 points out of Reverberation in to Booming Echoes and Eye of the Storm.
During some Ulduar fights you may be hit with some damage that will cause you to lose some major cast time. This should benefit more than Reverberation that we only cast once every 18sec anyways.
Later on when mana isn't as much of an issue you can move 3 points from Convection into Elemental Warding for better survivability as shamans have low health to begin with.

Something to note is that Kologarn is an especially picky fight for certain kinds of melee. If the rogue was any kind of Backstab-oriented build (they still exist, right?) then his dps will be bad regardless of gear because it's impossible to get behind Kologarn.
Feral druids are in the same boat.
