I'm Arc-Frost PvP.
Against Warlocks, I have varying success. Some just seem to geared/prepared for me, specifically, that I can't seem to beat them. But here's what I got for you.
1) Polymorph. It may be wise to utilize PoM to get this off before he spell locks you or the like.
2) Slow him.
3) Get another poly rolling in case he trinkets. If he doesn't...
4) Spam spell steal. You want any buffs he has on him off.
5) Fire Ward.
6) Pop all your available dmg CD's.
7) Arcane Blast.
8) Throw mirrors if you have them. This screws up his targeting (that is all he's doing while poly'd) as soon as he comes out of it.
9) Another Arcane Blast. Then Arcane Barrage.
10) If this has done significant damage, then counterspell regardless of whether he is casting, and finish him with another ArcBlast + ArcBarrage. If you don't think that will finish him, maybe slow him again, and stay with instant damage (ArcBarrage, Cone of Cold, Fire Blast, Ice Lance even) until he tries to throw a fear on you. Then counterspell him. After that, you should be able to finish with ArcBlasts, ArcBarrages and maybe a Fire Blast.

I invite any criticism to my strat. Like I said, I'm not that great against Warlocks.

newbie to mage pvp but heres what i can think of:
It might be worth sheeping him and killing the dog if thats what he has out.
If you dont want to kill it, fake cast and/or use a spell that you can affort to have locked out (like fire), eat the silence and then start doing ab/abarr chains on him.
If hes afflic, have him cast all his dots on you first before using your iceblock. Should remove all the dots and waste his mana/gcds.
Counterspell fear if afflic, cs his fire tree when hes going to/about to cast chaos bolt.
Save your trinket for his first CC that goes through, hopefully mage armor and DR will take care of the rest. Use mage armor.

if the strat has any success for you then i can't find much to criticize.. locks are a tough fight for us due to the felhunter and
nether protection
. it's a good idea to mix up your schools of magic when facing a lock (especially with the felpup out) due to these reasons. frostfire bolt should be avoided at
all costs
because a double school lockout is very painful for mages (no iceblock, no frost nova, no elemental, no brain freeze.... you get the idea)

Sheeping?
There is no point to sheeping a lock, if they have a felhunter out, they can trinket or or eat the poly
No, no, no.
I appreciate the rest of your contribution, but despite my mediocrity against Warlocks I can still tell you that this is just flat-out wrong. First off, not all Warlocks use the Fel Hunter; many use the Succubus. Second, Devour Magic has an 8 second cooldown. Polymorph has no cooldown with a 1.35 second cast (with Gladiator gear) un-hasted; remember too that it can be PoM'd. Futhermore, a mage talented with Arcane Subtlety has decreased the chance of Devour Magic dispelling Polymorph by 30%.
Polymorph isn't only highly useful against every class but just plain necessary against most. Every class, that is, except Druids (and even them in certain situations- as an interrupt).

Wrong. Arcane Subtlety only works on your own buffs and DoTs, but no debuff that doesn't deal any damage. Dispel protection talents were all changed to only work on DoTs somewhere around 3.1, I reckon.
The rest of your post is right, however. Discarding one of our most iconic (and useful) spells just because there's a Felhunter out is kind of stupid.
Alright, good to know. My assumption was based on what I read at WoWWiki when I learned about the pet's ability:
"Devour Magic counts as a dispel and can be resisted via abilities such as Contagion that make dispels harder."
Someone else in here told me that Arcane Subtlety works against Pallies and Priests who try to dispel it, and that was the major justification for points in the talent. In any case, I've used poly out of necessity against Warlocks. They might break a couple times, but I'll keep putting them back in it.
BTW, do you see any obvious flaws in my strategy? I didn't mention Remove Curse, but obviously if the warlock curses you, you're going to want to find the time to remove it. My strategy is sort of general outline should things go well. There's a million ways the Warlock can throw a wrench in things. You have to adapt. But that's my general blueprint for control against them.
