I do know how to tank thankyou very much. I was just giving a for instance. I was running with a dps that vastly outgeared me and wouldn't wait. I needed every bit of threat i could make. But we're getting off the point here.
If you have gear with no hit rating on it at all, no expertise either aren't you going to have issues with initial threat? I know my pally is currently sitting on 220ish hitrating and is one of the highest threat tanks in the guild. I'm also close to avoidance capped (withing 2-4% of cap with HS)
i'm just not sure i'd want to tank naxx10 without any hitrating or expertise is all i'm saying.

Hit is an indifferent stat for Prot paladins
Sir, do i understand you to be saying that hit is unimportant for pally tanks?
I am indeed stating that. The numbers state that hit is not a particularly valuable stat for a prot paladin with available gear.
Here is an analysis for you.Short version: Hit is worth about 2/3s as much as strength when it comes to threat, and is slightly better than BV up to the hit cap. Expertise is worth less than half as much as strength.
What about Avengers Shield misses?
What about them? You generate more threat overall by adding strength than you do hit. Just as hit cap used to be irrelevant for Ret Paladins early on in WotLK because they scaled so well with strength that the misses were more than made up for by the bigger hits, Prot Paladins gain more by making their SoV dot and Consecrate tick for more rather than ensuring that every HotR connects.
For a long while i ignored this stat and the damn dps stole mobs off me nearly every fight. Yes attacks like SoV and Righteous Shield aren't much affected by hit, but what about attacks like Hammer of the Righteous?
Read above. You gain more threat, point for point, from strength than hit at any available gear level. Merely repeating your objection doesn't change the fundamentals of it.
Also i believe that the OP is asking whats a good number to aim for hit rating wise. It might not be worth going for the cap particularly, but is there a hit rating worth aiming at? What about Expertise?
There isn't one. I would think that stating not to go out of your way for hit rating would make that clear. We take hit and expertise when they appear on our gear, and the SoV glyph is nice (the sheer amount of expertise it provides compared to the benefits of the other glyphs makes it a viable, but no longer automatic choice), but they are not stats that benefit us to seek out, as both are significantly inferior to strength.

Stacking hit won't solve the problem because it doesn't maximize your threat. If you get tired of taunting because he won't slow down on his BEEG NUMBARS, feel free to let a mob or three eat his face. There's a reason why "You pull it, you tank it" is an unspoken rule in a raid.

Congratulations. Prot paladin threat is very powerful in low end gear (because warriors, DKs, and druids all benefit from hit and expertise a LOT more than we do) and our up front threat is the best of the tanking classes. This is a function of your class, not your gear.
If you have gear with no hit rating on it at all, no expertise either aren't you going to have issues with initial threat?
Why would it cause more issues with initial threat than anything else? If the dps is attacking mobs before they're on the dance floor, that's not a tanking issue. That's a stupid dps issue.
And... what on earth are we supposed to gain in this discussion from your linking your armory?
