I use bear personally, but not so I can AoE level because in all honesty it can't hold aggro if I'm spamming volley. I can however use multi-shot and it's useful if i'm riding with a train behind me and get dazed my bear will instantly thunderstomp and get them off me. Another reason I use bear is for the talent that improves healing. The small DPS increase while leveling isn't worth the 'risk' involved with using a cat for me.

Not
Really
Lick your wounds has a 3min cooldown and it's not going to get you through every elite. The consistant healing from
Blood of the Rhino
will though. Heart of the phoenix seems nice though, but I'm just far too comfortable having thunderstomp while leveling.

Ferocity pets hold single target aggro much better than tenacity pets.
Leveling is mostly about single target aggro.
What? if you are leveling with single targets, it will take you FOREVER to do so.
Fastest way to level? round up 8-12 mobs with tenaicty pet.....thunderstomp + volley = fast leveling and win.

Leveling is hardly about facing one mob at a time. Not only does it take forever to do, but mobs usually crowd around one another or hang out in groups. Having to pull at least two or three at once is very common. There's also the mobs that might flee and aggro others, or the chance of wandering patrols sneaking up on you.
Tenacity pets can hold those groups better, letting you save your kiting skills and traps for emergency or special occasions where you want to freeze up one mob.

Tenacity pets don't hold AoE threat that well either.
I actually agree. I read a lot of posts on here saying "Get a bear, round up 12 mobs and volley away" but it just doesn't work like that. By your 2nd or 3rd volley you'll have agro on you, even if you let your pet get in 2 thunderstomps first. Let's assume you use feign death after the 2nd volley, it's still not going to be enough to kill them.
I actually started using a Wolf despite enjoying having a bear. The main reason being that it's a pain to go tame another wolf everytime you go run an instance.
