Hey guys! Greetings from the Priest Forums! Well, I post there primarily, but I recently have made a Shaman with whom I plan to go Resto at lvl 80 for raiding.
This will be my third healing class (Priest and Paladin are my others) and I've been toying around with the Resto spec in dungeons (lvl 70ish, nexus and stuff like that) and I find that my primary issues is
management of my mana
.
I know all the tricks to keep my mana pool running strong as a priest and a paladin, but for the life of me I cannot go longer than a few minutes healing on my resto shaman without OOMing, especially on high spike damage fights.
Are there any good tricks to keep up my mana reserves? I understand that I'm only level 69, and some of you will probably tell me that I should just hit 80 then start worrying about it, but I like to learn as I go.
As a disclaimer, I am a self-proclaimed Shaman Noob, so bear with me here. Most of my gear is a good deal lower than my level (5-6 levels below) because I've been kinda barreling through these lower levels.
Also, I won't post my armory because it won't do you guys any good. I'm leveling as enhance but using my dual spec Resto for dungeons (because we all know healers get into groups faster than DPS!).

It might be your spell selection. With shaman being my oldest healer (I have 1 of each type), I got used to the old way shamans had to heal in 5-mans. Healing Wave. Having to time a long heal (Which was okay because earth shield buffered you).
Now in 5-mans, I tend to just use riptide and lesser healing waves, chain heal before riptide for multi damage.
HW is now usually for fights where you know the tank is the only one taking damage, and I can time it for good effect.
You should have a lot of mp5. That's your primary way to regenerate mana.
Also, if you use Tidal Force, don't waste it on chain heals. Make sure you're using it on riptides and healing waves so you get mana back from Imp water shield.

Yup that's basically what I'm doing

Damn! Well this is where I fall short because all of my leveling gear doesn't really have a ton of MP5 on it. Unfortunately, I would probably say that I'm weakly geared for my level because all of my gear that I'm currently using is remnants of what I've picked up while leveling through 60's.

Ah, excellent tip! I didn't even think about that! I will make good use of this info Gen! Thanks!
I'd still love to hear from other shamen about what you guys do for mana regeneration or
mana
gement.
