Leveling a new character, Mage or Priest?

So this is the deal.
My friend is starting wow again, and he's creating a new account. I will recruit him so we can level a bit faster, but I can't decide what class to play. It's either Frost Mage or Disc Priest. I have played mage a bit in tbc and I really enjoyed it, is it anything like that in wotlk? And about priests, I haven't played priests on a high level EVER, but when I face them in battlegrounds I kind of wish that I had one. I enjoy pvp as long as it requires skill. Facerolling is no fun to be honest. Which class would be best to pwn others with once I have learned to play it properly, in your opinions? Mage or Priest?
My friend is rolling either a rogue or a resto druid by the way.

Shadow is weak at the moment, showing signs of getting buffed in 2019. I no longer play shadow, but I hear few shadow priests doing anything but complaining about their pvp viability.
Disc is seriously powerful right now in the right hands, and moderately powerful in anyone's hands. In other words, it's easy to play, but hard to play well. In any case, it's a healer, not a pwner. You can do excellent burst damage occasionally, but it's not a dps spec. Your offensive burst is only useful for helping a partner take down a weakened opponent. You are fundamentally
always
on defense. And you are well-designed for that role.
If you want to be on offense, top meters and number of HKs, a priest will not suit you. If you're a natural-born healer, a team player, you'll love a disc priest.

Alright, thank you for those answers. I'm leaning towards mage when you said that mage had the highest skill cap along with rogues, as my current main actually is a rogue.

Mage has probably the highest skill-cap in the game (along with rogue), so you could be completely useless in PvP or roflstomp alot of people, really it just depends on your skill
Mage... highest skill cap... *chokes*. Mages are moderately difficult to play in PvP (suffer from bad itemization, I'll say that) but defintely not the highest in the game.
A warlock has to manage more DoTs and CC, a hunter has to manage a pet and traps, and shamans have to manage totems. Doesn't mean they are harder, but just putting that out there.
As a general consensus, most classes (and by that I mean any class that is not a deathknight/paladin/restoration druid) take a fair amount of skill to play properly.
Regarding the OP: It is really a question of if you want to heal, or dps.
The only PvP spec for priests that is competitive right now is discipline, so if you roll a priest you will be a healer. While being unkillable can be fun, don't expect to 'pwn' anything with a priest. It's more like you heal a guy that pwns stuff for you.
A mage will be able to kill things on it's own though.
