Either your Inner Fire gives the same amount of armor to both your shadow and disc specs, or you're talented in
Imp Inner Fire
as shadow, but not as disc.
As far as PW:S goes, shadow has
Twised Faith
whereas disc doesn't have any talents to increase thier sp. PW:S naturally gets increased by 80% of your total sp. Later on, your shield in disc will far outweigh yours in shadow.

You say you're new to the class, so I assume you're leveling.
Check your spell ranks.
Some time after I dual specced, I noticed that my buffs were doing different amounts in Holy vs Shadow despite those buffs being talented the same in both specs. I looked around my talents and gear for explanations and couldn't find one. I spent days trying to figure it out.
Until I noticed that I'd usually been in Shadow first when updating my spells. Then I'd switch to Holy for upgrades to Holy-talented spells.
The problem was this: While spell ranks on your action bars will update automatically for the spec you're already in, it will
not
do so for the action bars for the spec that you're not currently in. I assumed they would, because they always had.
I was downranking by up to 2 spell levels on some spells, simply because they had not been updated on my bars when I trained new ranks at level.
Pull up your spellbook, switch into Shadow, and check all of your spells on your action bars, make sure the rank is updated properly.
Then switch to Disc, and again check all of your spells on your action bar against the rank in your spellbook.
I also find it useful to refresh macros since sometimes they (or their tooltips, but still) don't update properly either.
I still miss some of these sometimes. I'm usually pretty good about making note of what was updated and correcting it, but sometimes I just miss one for some reason.
Must stop editing...perfectionist tendencies run amok.
