The gear I'm looking at looks like a pvp set, so I can't judge anything based on your gear. However, you are missing some very nice enchantments on your gear. Especially on your Hateful robe, +20 resil can be bought for 15-20g on my server.
Now, on the off chance that it is your raiding gear, you need to regear and regem. If you plan on raiding as disc mp5 > spirit (especially after 3.2 when mp5 is getting buffed by 25%). There is also no reason why you should be gemming for stamina in a raiding set, even a spirit gem would help you out more. Get an enchant on your gloves, boots, and chest as well as get a socket on your belt.
On a yellow gem crit > haste. Even then, I'd suggest going w/
Luminous Monarch Topaz
or
Potent Monarch Topaz
. Blue sockets should have
Purified Twilight Opal
or
Royal Twilight Opal
socketed.
For looking at gems/enchants you should be using, I'd suggest going to
Gearing Up for Raids IV
.

I have healed as both and mostly heal as disc. We have a disc priest (me) and a holy priest and a druid.
Both holy and disc can be good for either role, tank heals or group.
For group disc healing, the shield and fast casts and penance make group healing a breeze. Holy has better overall group heals with CoH though.
Both are very fun and have there places.
As for stats, stack sp, int, crit, mp5 (spirit is good too if you can't get mp5).
I do often group heal if we dont have the druid with us, but mostly ot heals.
If you switch from holy to disc you will lose sp, don't worry about it too much, your main strength is mitigation. Do stack sp, but dont panic when it drops.
The other way you'll most likely gain sp depending on your spirit.

Why not go dual spec and have both? I find myself switching back and forth in raids depending on what is needed for each fight.

I do this too, works like a treat for me. :)
And then, if you like one much more than the other, drop the out-of-favour tree for shadow or pvp or something you wish to have.

Just play what tickles your fancy. Unless you're in a situation where you have to optimize a raid 100% (Who even does that anymore?) you probably get to pick what you want to play. If you can't decide, dual specc. I've been running Ulduar with a holy specc and a disc specc in dual. Depending on what's needed and what I feel like doing, I pick the corresponding specc. Play what you like playing, you should enjoy yourself, not others.
