You just want popular items that are always in demand.
Herbs, Ores, Bars, items you need in popular recipes for certain proffessions, that kind of thing.
Usually herbs and ore can rake in the best, as most people prefer making the items themselves.
Oh also, if you ever find any level 80 epics for WAY cheap (at least 150g below the others) buy it, and resell it for like, 25g below the others. That's 125g profit for doing nothing.
(I'm talking about craftables for the most part. People are always buying those)

Dealing in enchanting materials and enchant scrolls is usually very safe because they don't have any posting cost, so you can just keep posting them. Even if you get stuck with a bunch, just wait for the next big patch and everyone will have to enchant their new gear and the prices go up.
They key to that is really just watching and keeping track of when prices go up and down.

What do you use to track that?
I don't know if there's any good mods. I don't play the stock market. It's too much work and dailies cover my monetary needs.

Just pick some items and watch them using your brain addon. If you get familiar with a particular market, before long you'll spot a bargain.
I don't "play" the auction house as such, but as I'm selling stacks of herbs daily, I know what the going rate is, so, from time to time I might buy a few stacks for resale because my brain addon is telling me they are cheap.
It's really a case of learning the market tbh, if you don't you could lose as much as you earn with auctioneer. Also watch for items being sold for less than they vendor for, you'd be amazed how common that is, won't make fortunes, but it's a nice bonus for a 30 second walk.

wall of text: Good Info Tho....
well - I take a different approach - and I have Tons of money.
In my experience: and this is for low investment, high return...
First, run scans. then scans, then more scans. every day. I run one when I get home, one when I stop playing, and one at bed time. it's best to have around a month of scans, but you can start getting good info in about a week.
Then, set your resale scan up for a 10g minimum profit scan, no bids, buyout only.
I buy anything green or better under 5g right away. No matter what.
I buy any glyph listed at 2.5g or less.
I never buy gems.
Always look and make sure the items are not "70". Auctioneer used recursive data and patterns and such Still have a high "worth" to auctioneer, but not really anymore.
Always look for Plate. Mostly Bolderfist. With plate, I look for a good 60g profit. so - something selling at 10g that's worth 70+ is a great buy.
I pretty much stay in the 12g or less range unless it's a great deal.
always run a scan before to buy stuff, and always re-run a scan before you Post things, or the previous item will still be in the snapshot.
Then manually go in the Ore listings and look for anything listed around 70% below value. I buy it all. every ore I can.
relist it at normal prices.
repeat for any mat you feel comfortable about. I Mine, so I keep up with current ore pricing. Same with bars.
additionally, I have my banker alt with Enchanting for DEing items that don't sell after 3 or 4 posts.
I keep about 200+ items listed at any given time - and here's a tip. Don't list everything at once, or they expire at once. I try and batch everything that fits in my bags at one time, so I know I can pick them up, and I can tell how many from a batch sold by how many I get after it expires.
Don't be greedy. esp. with Plate. I pay 10g, if there are 3 listed at 100g, Ill list mine at 79 and 89.
Always use a buyout. Always sell in prices that end in either 4 or 9. break up stacks to be odd, so people have to buy more than 1 to make 5 - I like to stack in 3's and 4's - But Only if you are the only one posting (that's mainly for my ore). Lower ore, I just stack 20.
There is Plenty more - Plus how to break into the Epics game - and cornering the Card's market.
Wheew. I should write a sticky.....
Cheers and good luck - my email is in my profile if you have further questions.

The advice I've always used...
bid
low, sell normal.
Slow, but it works.
And bidding on cheap stuff just before maintenance always helps!

Stumpjumper, very nice info. I would love to see a sticky related to this type of thing.
Unless there is one already that I haven't seen. But I'm on these forums browsing a lot and have never seen such a thing.

Thanks. I have played for 3+ years, and over 1 of them Just doing the economy. I have a lot of tips I had gathered from Various sources, and have Never had a problem sharing with others. Mainly, there are So many servers and So many players... and Some people just dont like that aspect of the game. They grind what they need when they need it.
I have never written a sticky before, but Man i have a lot of data on my computer I could easily create one.
If the powers that be wish for me to, I will.

Auctioneer gives you trends as well if you do a daily scan everyday. Make sure you don't have anything disabled, it's under one of the tabs on the AH.

I would also reccomend that you read the site notes, user guides, and what not. I know it's pretty straight forward, but there are a lot of hidden gems in those text that can help you set up and save scans, speeding up your daily time spent.
