I myself have Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes, so I was thinking to myself the other day, 'I can't be the only WoW player with this!'. So if I started a guild for Diabetics and those with friends or family who are Diabetic, do you think it would be a pointless venture? Or a good way to start a community?

I'd think it'd be a bit odd to have a guild revolving around that principle alone. Then again I might be wrong and there could be more people out there looking for contact to others with a similar predicament than I think!
I'm having a hard time imagining it being a unifying core theme though. GLBT guilds work well in making the transition of a real-life community into the game since it's a lot more general, but it all depends on the type of people who end up joining and what they contribute.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of...

I think that is as dumb of an idea as guilds for cancer patients or GLBT guilds are, which is to say it's a terrible idea; you shouldn't define yourself because of one fairly minor facet. And before anyone gets up in arms, I am all too aware how big a facet of life T1 diabetes is because I've been one for 15 years. It doesn't come up unless I'm going out to eat with new people or if someone's family member has complications.

Yawgmoth, 1) Awesome MtG reference in your name, 2) cool to meet a fellow diabetic, and 3) The purpose for the guild would to be meeting other people and seeing how we all share the same interests or don't because for some reason or another we have this in our genetic code, so its more a social group and less of a social statement
