What talent spec and pet are you using? Make sure the pet has Growl on, and make judicious use of Misdirect.

I'm writing this so that any player, regardless of experience can use it. Most people who actually find the forums are not scrubs, so take this as it may. I'm not trying to insult anyone's intelligence here.
A few simple suggestions:
Your end:
Misdirection is your friend. Use it on the tank at the start of a fight to help him/her build threat. Use it every time the cooldown is up. It dumps threat you generate for the next three hits after it is cast onto the misdirected target. Misdirection can also be used on your pet for soloing as well.
If you have problems pulling aggro despite of this, feigning is also a good way to wipe threat, especially if you get the glyph that reduces the CD. It's a complete threat wipe that can be used ever 25 seconds (w/ Glyph). Very useful in all aspects of hunter play (PvP and PvE).
Their end (Pets and Tanks):
Pets: Be sure cower is off and growl is on. If you checked once and it looked fine, then you pulled aggro off of your pet, check again. Every hunter knows the PITA that is the random pet ability enable/disable. Keeping the spell on your pets spell hotbar prevents the automatic changing.
Tanks: (Take this with a big grain of salt) Make sure the tank is actually taunting targets, and more than just the initial taunt. Some people aren't expecting to find a 3k+ DPS in a normal instance or a 5.5k DPS in a heroic/raid, and they think they can tank as usual. If the tank it taking on multiple targets, be sure they are using an AoE effect in addition to their taunt. A tank who doesn't use Swipe/Demoralizing Roar/Thunderclap/Consecrate/Death and Decay is usually a bad sign.
The people before me covered it pretty well. I'm just writing what they're thinking.

You haven't really specified, but are you pulling aggro off your pet or off the tank?
If it is the pet, then see above comments, but also, I am told (I dont know since I play BM) that SV and MM tend to pull aggro off pets, simply because they do so much more damage than the pet, that the pet simply cannot generate any comparative threat. If this is becoming a huge problem, you might want to dual spec into a farming BM spec.

For anything that requires endurance, like soloing a group quest, as anything other than BM, it cannot be done. Unless you can kill the enemy before they beat the hell out of you, BM is the best way to do it.
For dailies and other questing, I use my MM raiding spec simply because I can usually kill anything before it gets close enough to kill me (Even level 80 regular mobs). My pet is just for show; my cat loses aggro after my first or second shot and it can never recover it unless I feign.
If you're pulling aggro off your pet and you're BM with growl on and cower off, I don't know what else to tell you other than "Chill out Turbo!"
If you're pulling aggro off of a tank, teach them how to do it right. Tanking as a prot warrior is usually referred to as the most effective tank (I was prot war before I rolled a hunter).
As for attending Twosexi's Tanking School, as they say: "When the student is ready, the master will appear."
