keep mining. it literarly costs a fortune to buy the bars you need to level Blacksmithing. especially when you hit Mithril, thorium and higher.

Farming ore is actually pretty easy and easy to level. You are going to want at least one toon with mining to smelt titanium or titansteel once you start getting epic patterns.
Titanium is going to get VERY expensive after the patch with JC's prospecting Titanium for Epic gems... Being a BS without mining (on your BS or an alt) is expensive and will be even more expensive after 3.2 drops. I've already seen the price of Titanium go up 50% on my realm.

You can add sockets to wrist, hand and waist items...
You can also make good money, especially if you combine BS with mining. Since you are already a miner, BS or JC are good gold making professions, but mining is also a good money maker (especially after 3.2 with even more demand for titanium ore). Most of the BS 400+ recipe rare items sell for 20-150 gold depending on your realm, and have a relatively low material cost.
I have JC and Enchanting on my Pally and it works well. I grabbed Mining and BS on my DK, and used the DK to farm for both BS and JC. The combos work well for me, and both JC and BS make gold.

yeah, one of the benefits is being able to socket your bracers/gloves...you can make the eternal belt buckle (which sockets belts) but these you can buy on the AH
