I like to throw Shadowfury prior to RoF. Its not the most powerful spell, but it is a 3 second stun, which helps out the tank and healers at least a little. And its instant, so I don't think you're really sacrificing anything by using it (if you're specced into it).

No not really, Stun means the tank is not getting hit; this means warrior, bear and pally tanks are not gaining rage/mana. If DKs tanks are not getting attacked this means less doge/parries which means less rune strikes.
The tank will not be able to put out as much threat leading to every one having lower DPS do to a lower threat cap.
Healers have to heal longer do to lower dps letting mobs live longer. The longer healers cast the grater the risk of going oom witch means a corps runs.
Pve + AoE pull + Stuns = bad + kick
where "bad" = the number of people making a corps run times the average level of the people useing the stuns.
Also only pvp destro specs need to take Shadowfury. Talent points are too few in PvE deep destro specs to wast on Shadowfury.

Don't worry about trash. Serious raids don't give a toss about overall dmg done. It's all about the boss kill.
Glad I didn't have to say it...
This.
I used to use shadowfury for the same justification that w1ggles said, but honestly if one must stun all of the mobs, then chances are you're in trouble anyway.

1 or 2 mobs = single target rotation
One funny thing you can do as affliction (if you have the skill) is to do your normal rotation on the twin targets
at the same time.
Never let a DoT disapear (without clipping) from any one target, and you'll see a fun damage boost. Perfect against ignis trash.
(Only an e-peen booster and does not help to down the targets significantly faster, but it's fun. That's what games are about.. isn't it?)

yeah, when i say single target rotation i mean getting your high DPET spells (DoTs) on both.

Are you a PvP spec and need to keep Shadowfury for your pvp fun? Only use it in pve after the tank has pulled and has a good threat lead.
like,
RoF > ShadowFury > RoF > RoF
Note: I do not know if this will up your dps! this is only for if you really want to use shadowfury in pve. You really should go test it your self.
Speaking as a tank, granted I'm a protadin(not that it really matters anymore these days), but that's just about completely inaccurate. A 3 second stun with a 8 yard diameter, would be a minor annoyance at best. If that 3 seconds is the difference between threat and mobs gone wild, is just showing that your tank needs to work on holding threat. Shadowfury isn't nearly as annoying as the mage that HAS to frost nova .4 seconds into the pull. Just be smart about it if you decide to go about it and finish loading up your DoTs and what ever before AoEing. Obviously on the main target as applicable.
Just one 3 sec stun is not too much, It is just when the other ~16-19 DPSers try to do the same. Things can get out of hand rather fast.
.
If the tank is letting people throw out stuns and roots or even slows. He is giving up control and threat gen.
Stuns, roots and, slows are not true "CC". and will only make the run that much harder.
p.s. don't poke fun of my jokes >.<

on my DK tank it's not a threat issue but if i'm trying to position mobs then stuns can be really annoying. once i've got the pack where i want it, it's all good. i can see that warriors and druids might get threat issues due to rage but i'd imagine that they would be more concerned about positioning too.
essentially, what i'm saying is that during the pull is the worst time to pop shadowfury.
