Well, by the time I got to levelling my hunter I only really had engineering and enchanting left to choose, so I gave her both of those.
Engineering as a hunter (or any toon) is fun - good guns and not buying ammo for starters, which is great for skilling up. You'll also be able to make your epic helm at lvl 72/440 skill (provided you have a higher lvl alt to help you pick up the mats). I managed it, wasn't too hard.
But if you don't already have an enchanter I would say go for that. If you have inscription on one of your alts, or know someone who does, get yourself some stacks of armour and weapon vellums and you'll be able to mail enchants to all your alts (it saves me SO much time and messing about).

I say for hunters, Mining/Engineering and Leatherworking/skinning works best.
Mining - Best for making money when selling unwanted jems or selling ores and the extra stam can help u too
Engineering - Mostly cos u can make guns and bullets/arrow which is good for any hunter, sweet gadgets and trinkets u can make which can give u extra ports or give more emergancy escape options, make bombs where some can crack locks, make epic mounts, and some really good helms that can make u look further away like telescope, there also great enchants that cna help u greatly.
Skinning - the leather u get can sell quite well depending on the market, also can give u some extra crits which is quite nice of any hunter
Leatherworking - great for making some extra epic gear for ya self or making bags to sell to make money and some cool enchants
Do research buddy, that ya best bet and read the lastest patch notes - engineers are gonna get a huge boost.
But most importantly only engineers cxan make those sweet 2 man motorbikes and flying machines.

hi there,
thks for your suggestion, for the ammo parts, why is it only great for starters as well as when skilling up?
Sorry, by 'for starters' I meant 'to start a list of reasons why it's good.' Ammo is still great for skilling up later on as well - I made bullet boxes until they went grey (420 skill) and then the arrow boxes for a friend's hunter until they went grey (425 skill).
im actually thinking of taking up enchanting cause its seem quite useful but i was thinking of when end lvl, the creating of ammo and the guns as well as the fast movement boots will be good for my hunter?
Bottom line is that both will be good for your hunter specifically, but enchanting will be good for all your alts. It's really down to your personal choice in the end.
And yes, LW is good for hunters, completely viable choice, but if you know a LW or have a LW/skinner alt, the mats for the crafted mail epics are easy enough to pick up - particularly the eternals for an engineer.
Engineering has a bit more raid utility also in the form of your army knife (possible res), scrapbots, and mechanical mob stuns (really useful on fights like Deconstructor). Plus the other nifty little engineer gadgets you can make up that just make playing fun. The extra crit from skinning is pretty 'meh' at endgame, and the bracer enchant from LW is nice, but...engineering just has more to offer.

I'm going to have to agree with the previous posts. Engineering can get pretty costly though (I'm impatient so when I hit 72 I bought a lot of mats to level to 440 and then to make the helm). But it's always good to have another character with professions you can benefit from (like lw/skin). I'd also rather not spend 30g a stack to buy ammo on AH when I can just make it myself, or farm the mats and sell them for a nice profit.
I deffinately agree with you there. ive made lots and lots of gold selling ammo. I sold the mammoth cutters in the "box" and usually got 40G a box. regardless that the same ammount of ammo out of the "Box" went for 20. ive held off leveling up my final 5 points to master Engineering, because the only thing i can make that still gives me decent xp is the heartseeker scope, and they require 2 twilight opals which on my server are like 40G a piece.

I currently am maxed out on skinn/LW. I was thinking that skinning crit bonus is not that great- should I go to Engineering. I can have another toon get me matts for it or I can just buy them for now.
Want to get the best buffs that I can from profs, not looking to make gold from them(it is nice tho-lol). either JC or Eng is better than Skinning in my opinion. any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

I had leveled with Skinning and leatherworking. Was a pretty nice combo to have. But in your case I would suggest Mining/engineering. You can make your own bullets, The ability to make yourself a nice helmet for level 72 and up as well as Jumper cables in a PvE situation. The thing I liked about it was the eternal's profit.
Hope I was of help

"You can craft your own gear"
Who cares? They are BoE. You can buy the mats and have someone craft it for you, or just buy the item. Or just do like a normal person and level up on quest/BtA gear.
Cheap Leg enchant is ok. 64 extra AP on bracer is also ok....
Anyway, the best professions for a hunter is JC/BS. That way you can stack ArP or Agi as you need, instead of the crappy AP you get from other professions.
But, if you won't want to repeat profs, for an alt... Inscription is the way. With inscription you won't have to grind Sons of Hodir rep.

how much gold to raise Engineering without mining?

Don't forget your little gas cloud thingy as an Engy, you can make quite a bit of gold from Eternals, and also selling random ore.

I like JC because, while most people are focusing on the "+64AP" for each craft, JC gives you the option to do straight agility. That benefits SV hunters more than just AP. Also, until the next patch you can get that +12AP or whatever socket bonus that you otherwise can't justify dropping 8agi for.
