Hi guys,
As you would probably be aware, svirve and I have created a Paladin spreadsheet aimed at optimising the Protribution build we've been working on.
As part of this work, I'm trying to work out how often Ret paladins use their abilities so I can build up an estimated DPS by an equivalently geared Ret pally to compare the Protribution DPS to.
Whenever you get the chance, next time you're using a combat dummy, or running heroics, or raids, can you track the following?
Time spent in battle: mm:ss
Number of times each ability is used ->
Crusader Strike
Divine Storm
Judgement
Consecrate
Exorcism
Hammer of Wrath
Thanks all in advance!

If you are looking for a number to compare with, download
http://www.codeplex.com/Rawr
and use the ret module to come up with a number. Also, it can give you the effective cooldowns of various abilities, based on your lag/reflexes/rotation priorities.

I've got no faith in programs like Rawr that simply generate a number based on assumptions that I don't know. It's not much good if it's based on an 'optimal' rotation, when people generally don't use it.
Effective cooldown is exactly what I'm after, but I want an average of what people get, so that I'm not biasing the results based on my own lag/reflexes/rotation priorities.

Squishy, squishy, squishy...
WWS
is your friend!
Just check different runs until you find a ret paladin and then write down the different numbers :)
I'd do it for you but atm i'm incredibly lazy.

Yeah, I was trying to outsource the job :)
No, really, the main reason is because I don't have access to most WoW-based websites at work (WWS included), so I can't work on it here :P

You are making a spreadsheet - in essence, a optimal rotation guide for your idea. Why would you want to compare your optimal number to sub-optimal one?

Because it's easy for people to follow an optimal Prot rotation, so you can program it in. It's more difficult for people to follow an optimal Ret rotation, so I'm compensating.
It's also more to consider that if I'm going to try to persuade people that Protribution is OK, I'm going to need to compare 'real world' DPS, rather than optimal DPS. I need to be able to say, "This is what you're doing now, if you used this Prot rotation, you'd be doing this".
It's not really fair comparing a sub-optimal Ret rotation to an optimal Prot rotation, but judging by the number of Tanks who use 9-6, and the number of Ret DPS who use the absolute optimal 17 minute long rotation (or whatever it is), I'd rather have a bunch of people using FCFS to compare, rather than whatever is 'optimal'.

So basically, lie to make prot dps look less sucky? :D
Anyway, Rawr uses FCFS priority system (can configure it yourself) to model ret damage. Spend five minutes feeding it various numbers and writing down the results, and your spreadsheet end users can configure their latencies themselves.

Goodness SS, squishy already said he wanted to be lazy like wowhead. IMO he needs a wow client/addon to do this stuff for him.
Oh and stop with the making sense, and being logical we dont want to give ourselves a bad reputation with the outsiders of actually being intelligent.
Not purposefully, I just don't think that I play Ret well enough to use myself as a basis. Hence an average of people's rotations made the most sense, otherwise, I would have just used the figures from Recount, and wouldn't need to bother at all with Rawr. I don't raid enough to get a good cross-section of Ret pallies on my own.
I'll scour WWS when I get the chance, probably.
Edit: As for lying, goodness no! Simply outputting 'realistic' numbers :D

Meh, do whatever. I gave you a plane ticket, if you choose to walk the way on your hands through the gutters, your own choice I suppose :)

And cheers for that ticket. I'm just not arrogant enough to believe that I'm a reasonable example of a Ret pally. :)

No one is a reasonable example of any kind of pally compared to me...

Well, in the little research i've done, I'm happy to report that the Judgement is back!
In 3.2 PTR, I find the JoCorr damaging for 2-3 times as much as JoB did. In addition, there is zero recoil damage as a result of using the judgement. Secondly, CS was given a bit of a nerf. Even given the fact that the CD was dropped, between rotation conflicts and server lag, it seems like im not get CS every time as soon as it comes off cooldown.
Personally, this will most likely be my priority as of 3.2:
< 3 targets: HoW > JoCorr > CS > DS > Cons > Exo
> 3 targets: Cons > DS > HoW > JoCorr > CS > Exo
Hope this helps.
