I hit 50 on my priest last night and have been leveling him holy so far. I like the feel of it and the ability to heal dungeons when necessary. Now I know most people go shadow from this point and I did get dual specs so I can have both but while trying it I found I liked holy better.
Has anyone gone all the way to 80 as holy and had success or is it just so much slower it's not worth it.
So far I've gotten 26-50 over the past 4 days and I'm more or less worried that once in outlands and NR that the holy spells won't be doing as much damage as shadow spells can do.

Once you hit the magical 60, Shadow will actually be a great spec for leveling; the thing about 60 is that Vampiric Touch (available at that level) and Vampiric Embrace combined are extremely efficient self-healing and mana regen spells, meaing next to no downtime. There's no true equivalent to this in either Disc or Holy; all of their reliable regen is passive (crit-procs aside), which means that no matter how good your rotation or how easy the mobs, you won't be able to recover as fast as a Shadow spec of the same level.
In the end it's personal preference. If you love Holy and managed to get this far with it, you can carry it into Outlands and beyond, but if you're up for a new experience, give Shadow a try once you hit 60 C:

At level 50 you can pick up VT from the shadow tree which makes it faster for leveling. This post is still new, but later on you should be getting plenty of successful stories of leveling all the way as holy and/or disc, how much people loved it. Blah. Blah. Blah.
You already spent the gold to get dual spec, so I recommend trying out shadow for a few more levels and getting a feel for it; you still have holy for dungeons. If you still find that you don't like shadow, pick up a lolsmite spec for leveling and another spec dedicated to healing dungeons.
When playing as shadow, make sure you are using Replenishment from casting MB while VT is active on the target. With a combination of pre-shielding and VE, you should never die (unless you oom of course).

I've been leveling with a disc/holy build when solo questing since level 1. (now level 73).
Armory link.
Unless I try to take on 5+ at a time I find it incredibly difficult to go oom to the point that I need to stop and drink.
pre-shield > sw:p > holy fire > smite smite smite > wand
Using this rotation I always try to get through 2 mobs per shield.
If Im not anywhere near a point where I gotta travel around somewhere (therefore letting mana regen), I always have shadowfiend available.

Personally I leveled 1-80 holy, didn't pick up dual spec until after I started healing Uld 10! Grab a friend and level with them, tank or dps, and you will blow through levels. I leveled with a fury warr and a hunter, and we blew through levels and mobs. Shadow does more damage, but I am of the opinion that if you want to heal, you better damn well know your class inside and out and there's no better way than to level as the spec you ultimately want to have.
Also, its a pain in the rear to carry around 2-3 sets of gear (holy, shadow and pvp :( UGH!) in case you get into an instance to heal or w/e.
Holy fire is a wonderful thing, when leveling holy i would pull with that since it has a longer cast time, then do smite, SW P and DP. Bubble when they get close and just keep casting.

Sir, level however you feel most comfortable doing it. The most efficient path does say to switch to Shadow at 50; if you don't want to do that because you find Holy more fun, then don't do it! Given that you have Dual Spec, probably with the intention of filling both Shadow and Healing roles at level 80, do try to switch back to Shadow every few levels just for a little bit, or go Shadow for an instance or two if someone else is willing to heal, just to keep yourself on top of the skills you acquire.
This is exactly what I have been doing, every two or three levels, I switch back to spend the points and see what the rotation looks like. I still like holy better but that is only because I started with the points in disc first and got the 50% regen while casting, I do see the potential of shadow though and will probably just stay in that once im 60+.
Thanks to all who responded!
My Priest by the way.
