First of all, let me say that I've searched the forums and haven't found much that has been too useful for what I need. If I'm mistaken, or haven't looked hard enough, I apologize.
I hit 80 a little bit ago with my Nigh Elf Priest and plan on healing for raids and heroics. My plan, originally, was to just run heroics until I could get geared to the point of being able to raid in Naxx, and move from there.
However, I find myself getting a lot of grief about being under-geared in the heroics that I run.
Naturally, as a fresh 80, I expected to get a lot of comments about my gear, seeing as how most of the people I run instances with are obviously going to be somewhat better geared than I am.
Lately I've been thinking that there are other ways to get geared besides heroics. Or rather, things I should have gotten before running heroics regularly that would make them run all the smoother.
Are there other things I should be doing to prepare myself for heroics even? Or should I just suck it up and deal with it until I acquire some badges and semi-decent gear?
While I'm playing the noob card, I'll ask one more thing: Where do I spend my badges from heroics anyway?
Here's my armory link, don't know if that'll help or not.

The way I did it is I ran all possible (regular) Instances I could squeeze my way into, which yielded a good set of (Blue) Item-Level 187 gear. With that, you're pretty much ready for the easy Heroics. If you want to go the extra mile though ...
Here's a list of the BoE gear you can grab from the AH or have crafted. Tailoring has some very nice things to offer such as the
Moonshroud Gloves and
Robes. Once you actually go do some Heroics, you'll be able to reputation grind for a bunch of faction reward upgrades as well.
Make sure all your gear is enchanted with at least the cheap WotLK enchants, all your existing gem slots are filled and your belt has an
Eternal Belt Buckle. Good luck! :D

You can by emblem gear
here.
You'll have a much easier time getting into groups for heroics as a healer than if you go in as shadow; at least until you get better gear. Putting some of the cheaper/better enchants on your gear can help a lot.
I'd recommend getting a
Titansteel Guardian and putting
+50 sp on it. That alone will give you about 200 more sp.
If you have the gold, you can grab some higher ilvl epics that will last you into Ulduar. Just 1 or 2 of these can be a major boon to your ability to heal heroics.
Furthermore, make sure your grinding rep as you do these, rep rewards have some very nice gear attached.
Edit: I thought cawfee gave you the link to my guide:
Gearing Up for Raids. You'll notice that section 6 has a much more in depth list of all the AHable gear.
