Demonic Embrace
is pretty useful too.
And on a side note, i thought affliction had 3 points to spend anywere. That
Demonic Power
was optional. And that Amplify Curse was a part of the regular build, just to get deeper in the tree. But that's just me.

well i don't think demonic power really is optional for most players. those in very pre-set raid groups who know they will always be using a fel hunter will want to skip it but anyone who changes their pet based on a varying raid group or anyone who knows they can use the succubus regularly will want that talent.
as for the question, i take 1/2 fel synergy.

Fel synergy is good but there is another option - Improved Healthstone. This is only worth it if you consistently have MORE than one lock in your raid. If one of you has improved healthstone people can carry
two
healthstones! Granted there still is a cooldown but considering how long many of the fights are in Ulduar players should still be able to use 2 of them.
Welcome to WotLK. You can no longer hold two healthstones.

there's no very definitive answer really. that's why it's a spare point. for me it's a sensible place to put it, especially if you're using a succubus, but there can be pretty decent arguments for the other options.

iirc, without demonic power there's very little to separate the succubus or imp from the felhunter in pure dps terms... not that there's
very
much with the talent but it is a small but clear difference with.
i don't think there'd be any reason to use a delicate melee pet (succubus) when the much safer ranged imp and the felhunter, with its higher defensive stats, do very similar damage.
