hi there -
i just finished HVH on my holy priest.
i wasn't healing - i was asked to stop healing and do faildps. which was fail.
the druid - doing great dps - switches to tree form and then heals the entire group of 4 ppl ( i consider it 4 ppl because i was wasn't contributing at all)
there is no way i could heal a 4 man group as my holy priest - no problem for treeman
sometimes i just wish that when i log in i would magically be a druid.
i sincerely apologize for the rant but this a little disturbing.
could a holy priest carry a 4 person group in HVH? or any heroic for that matter?
Edit: not really related but the druid decides to need on azure cloth bracers - and need on the frozen orb.
it just seemed like adding insult to injury.
Edit Update: i don't know what my problem is - it seems that - even though i have all my spells keybound (over 13)- i sometimes forget about one of them - like last night i forgot about Divine Hymn ( i use it with Infusion).
thanks for the imput
072609 - thanks for more replies. i was logged out on my pvp set (its what i do before and after heroics usually) my PVE set does have the cloth bracers from HVH ( i have done that instance a bunch of times).
i do need more practice healing
i am pretty sure after inspecting the druid he was NAX25 geared at least.
on a side note - i love what holy can do in bgs. i used to be disc for pvp but i now prefer holy.

Yes.
That's all that needs to be said.

Gear and skill is as much required in resto as it is in holy...or any class/spec for that matter.

Hmm.
Circle of Healing
Prayer of Mending
Prayer of Healing
Divine Hymn
(
Holy Nova
)
That's 4 useful (5 if you want to be technical) Holy abilities which can heal your party in a pinch, not to mention most of these pack a decent amount of power compared to a rather slow-rolling druid HoT like
Wild Growth
. Priests have the luxury of being able to mitgate tank damage done for a period of time with
PW:S
, allowing you to focus on party members when needed.
So, long post short, yes. Druids make amazing healers in fight where there is continuous, predictable damage such as
Sapphiron
or
Anub'Arak
, but when it comes to versatility and the ability to respond quickly and powerfully to raid damage or an
unexpected tank hit
, it'll be hard to hold a
candle
to a Holy Priest (forgive the pun).

YOU NO TAKE CANDLE! :|
But I agree with everything you have said. Also, stacking serendipity for a fast PoH is easy, and in fights with constant damage (such as Sapp or Keristrasza), PoM really shines.

Hmm, I'm not sure how other servers do it, but on Illidan it's common practice for everyone to need roll on Frozen Orbs.

On Blade's Edge it's common to greed on the orbs, I've never seen anybody needing them.
On topic: Ofc a Priest can heal HCs, probably even easier then a Druid (my Priest isn't 80 yet but my Druid is ;) All the awesome HoTs are kind of wasted in HCs for the Druid and the Priest has better direct heals). Just check the stickies here and look for advice on your holy talents and how to properly play with that spec and you will be fine. Btw it is quite common to play any HC with 1 tank, 1 healer and 3 dps. Any of the healing classes (Priest, Druid, Shaman, Paladin) can (if well played and decently geared) get a group through HCs (if the tank doesn't totally suck). I'd say it's easiest for Priests, then Shamans (chain heal rocks in HCs), then Druids and last Paladins (just because I don't like them ;)).
Still, healing is harder then dpsing. It always requires your attention and fast reactions. If you don't feel comfortable with this "stressful" job then maybe switching your main spec to dps might be better.

tbh, I'd say that a holy priest is a little more gear dependent than other specs/classes. The typical holy spec gives you +5% to spirit and 1 sp per 4 spirit, whereas a disc priest for example gets +15% int, +6% spirit and haste, +3% crit, and mana regen and raid wide dmg reduction from using a vastly improved PW:S. Other healing classes get +10-15% of their best stat and sp from that stat.
Granted, skill and a decent tank can help you overcome poor gear in heroics, but it can still be difficult. The spells listed by cawfee are great for group/raid healing, but (with the exception of PoM) consume a lot of mana. So unless you have plenty of mana regen, you can't rely on them too heavily.
If you are having trouble healing heroics as holy, try switching to disc for a while. I leveled 70-80 and did some heroics as disc before switching back to my trusty holy spec, and I'm positive the extra mana/mana regen talents made those early heroics easier.

I've probably healed VH more than any other Heroic. Holy priests can definitely heal Heroics well, even in 4-man groups where things take a little longer to kill.
What's your gear and your talent spec look like? It's possible the druid's gear was just really good (though I guess if he was rolling need on those bracers, maybe not). But it still might have been better, overall, than yours.
I've run heroics with guys who were in Naxx and Uld gear who were just bored and wanted to run something. Their performance would make any of us who are still progressing through Heroics feel just a little wimpy ;)
And those bracers are nice, sorry you lost them, and I hope you get ahold of them soon.
Edit: I checked the priest listed in your profile. Your talent build is almost identical to mine - (you have 1/1 Inner Focus and 2/3 Emp Renew, I have 2/2 Holy Reach and only 1/3 Emp Renew).
However, you appear to be wearing a PvP set, so since I assume you have a separate PvE set, it's not possible to make any determination from that =) If for any reason, you
don't
have a separate PvE set, then very low spirit and regen with excess stamina is a likely cause of trouble.

I can't remember the last time I had to use Divine Hymn during ANY heroic... ever. That spell is designed for raids, NOT for 5 man instances. If you're finding a lot of opportunities that you could be using Divine hymn as a Holy Priest, then you're falling behind in other aspects and need to pick up your own slack.
As for Druids, they're very strong healers, but a Good Resto Druid and a Good Holy Priest should be pretty even in a raid, but in a 5 man instance, I would say that Holy priests have more tools to do quicker and greater healing for the 5 people (+1 even 2 pets) without ANY problems.
HOWEVER, if you're comparing a Naxx 25 geared Druid versus ... you, I am not surprised that you were swapped for him. Especially if you were struggling. But when you're geared properly, there's no reason you couldn't do the same.
Warning! Incoming Brag: Just earlier today, I carried 7 people through the Council of Iron fight in Ulduar. The fight took almost the entire enrage timer, but I was able to heal for the last 7 minutes of the fight after already for about 8 minutes. At this point, the other two healers had died to a Rune of Death, and I healed 7 players for 7 straight minutes without going OOM, only losing two of them by the very end. If a holy priest can do this, then a 5 man instance shouldn't be any problem at all.
