I don't particularly mind it, but the fact he's so extremely slated towards one side without showing the positive aspects of others disturbs me (and I MOSTLY mean IRL)
That's what most people with a strong political opinion tend to do... >.>

The Hunger Games Trilogy. I recently finished the last book and I'm eagerly waiting on the movie.
In the meantimes, though,
these fan made vids
are pitch perfect.

Finally got the time to sit down and finish A Dance With Dragons.
WHAT THE HELL? JON? I swear, if Melisendre or someone else doesn't save him, I'm going to be so pissed if he actually ends up dead. Can't believe that the rest of the black brothers are so close-minded and stupid! Jon was doing so many great things! GRRRRRREWJIKOWANE#@:P!KNPOIHJF{PH@!#{IBNPJCVPJDSNFU!#@_*$&!#@*&_!@*Y#$
So I finished it while I was away.
I'm fairly confident he's dead. I mean, if there's one thing I've learned about this guy, if you don't want him to die, you better start looking for a coffin. That said, Jon was definitely one of my favorite characters, and I'm sad to see him die.
It's fairly obvious that Stannis is not Azor Azhai, but in fact it is Dany, "
It is written in prophecy as well. When the red star bleeds and the darkness gathers, Azor Ahai shall be born again amidst smoke and salt to wake dragons out of stone.
" Her tears and stone dragon-eggs, yadda yadda yadda. One thing I actually dislike about the way his stories are going, is that they seem to gravitate toward their being God's, and even then that their is 'one' God and one 'right' God. I enjoyed the spread of the religions across the book, especially as they interacted (I swear by the Old Gods and the New, etc.) I enjoyed the subtlety in which the divine and arcane were evoked, but now with the new religion, it just seems too powerful. Furthermore, it kind of turns it into a typical fantasy 'chosen one,' which I dislike.

At the same time though, R'hllor is very obviously not a good god. In fact, at the end, Aeron burns seven virgin girls as a sacrifice. That's a little extreme. Not only that, but it looks as if the old gods have some power as well. Only the Seven appear to be fabrications, or asleep.
Also, what about Stannis's sword? It appears to be the real deal. Even if Melisandre is completely off her rocker, she appears to have given him a real fiery sword, whereas the others seem to be fabrications.

Well, we've never seen the Old God's actually DO anything like R'hllor has. And if you think about it, all the 'mysterious' things that happen around heart trees seem to actually go back to green-seers. In fact, the majority of times we see people hear divine thingies around the tree it's revealed to be Brann looking in from another age. I guess you could say they have power, if you think the Green-Seers and Wargs are associated with them, but even then it's very subtle, subdued. This crap with shadows is just kind of ridiculous. Just fortune-telling would be enough. And if the sword was 'given' by Melisandre, not the Red God himself, and Melisandre spends a good half the time she's in dialogue or even in her own head pushing in the fact that she can
VERY EASILY MISREAD THE FLAMES *HINT HINT*
, as well as the fact she can't seem to find Stannis in the flames anymore, I think it's a safe bet. I would actually put money on it, and I just came out of a weekend of poker in which I multiplied the cash I went in on by 4.5... I don't mind magic, but magic that so obviously and tremendously affects the politics is just kind of annoying.

But does that mean the Old Gods are less powerful, or that they're just biding their time? The greenseers and wargs are very obviously followers of the Old Gods, along with the Children. It could be that they were just waiting until Bran could arrive before they could start doing anything.
And on the Melisandre/Stannis: Melisandre only works with the Red God though, so if she could enchant the sword, the Red God would have to support it, ergo, it was given by him. Although I was kind of surprised that Stannis was caught that easily. It seemed too contrived for me.

Stannis's sword is not the real sword. Remember the whole deal with Master Aemon asking Sam what he saw and then pointing out that a sword of fire gave off no heat?
As to Azor Ahai reborn, yes it's obviously not Stannis, but at the same time, maybe it's not Danaerys? I dunno, she just seems to be too obviously the obvious choice. An interesting thing that Malgayne pointed out to me the other day in response to my post about Jon dying was this: He's coming back somehow or other, I'm just not sure how.
Here's the interesting thing: remember the prophecy about Azor Ahai? Born amidst smoke (the steam rising off his wounds) and salt (Bowen Marsh's tears), when the Red Star (Ser Patrek's heraldry) bleeds?
Interesting to think about. I wouldn't put it past Martin to mess with us like that. I dunno, I'm just not a fan of Danaerys; I'd love for it to be Jon.

But does the sword
have
to give off heat? I would think that it not giving off heat would paint it as more obviously magical.
Also, did you and Mal talk about that on IRC? I've been thinking of joining the Wowhead IRC, and I'd like to hear his views.

Jon's equally obvious imo.
You know who I bet it is? I'm gonna go ahead and say it. Rickon Stark. You *!@#ing know it is. There's a reason we haven't seen or heard him for this long. He's definitely one of those characters George is gonna have us forget about and then come back with some cool !@#$. I mean, probably not Azor Azhai !@#$, but he has something in store for the boy.

As long as the Stark line is replenished, I'd be happy.

Anyways; just read a great Zombie novel called Rise Again by Brian Tripp. Follows a group of survivors from a small town, with the main character searching for her sister who goes missing in the first chapter. The infection itself is quite amazing as it has many different tiers all through the book. If you love zombie novels, pick this one up.

Frank Herbert's
The White Plague
is pretty interesting. Haven't got too far into it, but it kind of reminds me of if Frank Herbert wrote Tom Clancy.

Leviathan Wakes
, by James S. A. Corey. One of the best Sci-Fi novels I've read in a long time. You won't regret reading it.
Repost because I'm not sure anyone saw it and I really want to stress this.

And just finished another pair of excellent books:
One Second After, which is about what could happen to America if EMP weapons were detonated above the country, and they lost everything. It's a really chilling story, and is actually recommended by people in the higher up of government to read.
The other is Roboapoclypse, which is like a cross between World War Z and the idea of Skynet; the entire book, which has multiple view points from survivors and those who died but had been recorded by the machines themselves during the 'New War'; what they called the Robot War. Definitely worth a read if you like end of the world, robots, and survivor stories.

Can anyone suggest any good Steampunk books? I got
Leviathan
today and I'm intending to read it again so I can read
Behemoth
. Honestly,
Leviathan
was the book that got me into steampunk. It was just awesome.
Any other books on that level?

omg there are so many good steampunk books to choose from!
Boneshaker by Cherie Priest
The Anubis Gates by Tim Powers
The Difference Engine by Bruce Sterling and William Gibson
Heart of Veridon by Tim Akers
Mainspring and Escapement by Jay Lake
The Prestige by Christopher Priest
Soulless by Gail Carriger
Jack Faust by Michael Swanwick
The Prophecy Machine by Neal Barrett Jr
Anno Dracula by Kim Newman
Perdido Street Station by China Mieville
The Alchemy of Stone by Ekaterina Sedia
The Somnambulist by Jonathan Barnes
Infernal Devices by K. W. Jeter
I will probably be thinking of more all night. It's a great genre! :) I particularly recommend one of the first three books I list if you haven't read them. All three are steampunk, but each has its own little thing it brings in. Boneshaker has zombies, The Anubis Gates has time travel, and The Difference Engine has computers.

I actually started the Difference Engine, but couldn't get into it. \/
I also just finished Clockwork Angel (first book in Infernal Devices, for those that don't know) on Sunday, which was what got me back into steampunk.
