Yeah, having to gimp your gear for stuff like the Frost resist set is stupid IMO. Thats why I find it odd that the only mob dropped recipes for enchanting in WOTLK are all resist recipes.
When I read that comment I was like "Huh?" and then went and looked it up. I didn't even realize new resistance cloak enchants were released.
I didn't have any experience in Vanilla raiding, but I kinda liked the TBC resistance fight, which was pretty much only Hydross.
Overall though, I'll agree it's not a very fun mechanic. Probably why Blizzard discontinued them in WotLK.

Have any of you guys actually raided in wotlk?
It definitely isn't to the same degree as it was in vanilla or tbc, but they definitely haven't "discontinued" needing resistances.
Just a couple examples: Sapphiron frost resistance, Hodir's Frozen blows, and Thorim's hard mode to an extent because of sif with frost/nature.
Definitely not as demanding as it used to be, as these fights can also be done without it, but to say its a mechanic they don't use anymore... huh?
btw... I'm not saying I like it or anything, but like it or not, it's still here.

But throw a Shaman Totem in, or a Paladin Aura and that's pretty much good enough for the raid. As long as you have one of those classes in your raid, you basically don't need resistance gear anymore. Even things like Frozen Blows can be countered with Aura Mastery + Frost resistance aura.

Yes, but additional resistance makes it easiere..
I know of guilds who get every member in 2 or more frost resists items for their first kill on Hodir.

I disagree. With tanks wearing FrostRes Gear they have less threat, less hp, less avoidance. DPS do less DPS, making the fight last longer, meaning more frozen blows, more aura damage, more flash frezes, more chances to screw up.
Less hp? You do realize that the frost resist gear is covered with stamina?
Fate's Clutch
, ring from Thorim25 hard mode. Compared with
Titanium Frostguard Ring
.
The lack of threat/avoidance/threat really isn't a big concern on Hodir. Since the main reason people wipe is because of people dying to the AoE or tank dying to the frozen blows. Sure it might not be the concern in your guild, but there is a big difference between guilds. You can't just say because your guild find it easiere without, it's the same for others.
Sure it might last 30-1min longer, and the overall damage taken might be the same, but it's spread out on a larger time frame. Making it alot easiere on the healers.

Capped frost resist on the tank makes Hodir Hard Mode sort of a joke. Its like perma-shield wall. Hodir's damage is trivial when he's not on frozen blows, and when he is, frost resist makes it so much easier. And because its easier to heal, you can (and should) run with less healers and no offtank.
