I don't think their dead, I think we've just done massive damage to them, kinda like a lobotomy to disable them but not kill them, because like the Lore says; if they die, the world dies with them. Also, you see C'thun trying to come back with the help of Cho'gall and the Twilight Hammer in AQ/Silithus, with his evil voice running through Med'an's head.
Heck, a Titan fought C'thun to a standstill and slapped his big floating butt out of the sky into Silithus and the creepy thing didn't die back then. That's why I think the theory about the Old God/Forgotten One, whatever the thing in Darkshore with the Sword sticking out of his head/knee/whatever, isn't dead, and might be responisble for the Nightmare in the Emerald Dream as it trys to regain itself and come back to life.
As for Yogg-Saron, haven't fought him, don't know what happens to his body after you wail on the million mouths and eyes (old discription of him.)

In all simplicity? It was merely a setback!

Well, given that the old gods (as many of you already know) are generally considered derivations from/references to the alien deities in the Lovecraft mythos... we might consider that
those
cosmic entities are described in a way that implies that they do not really die, and that when they seem dead to us they are simply sleeping or dreaming. (Cthulhu is a prominent example of this.)
I imagine it's the same way with Warcraft's old gods: the players "killed" them and caused them to cease being alive, more or less the same way one might kill a regular old mortal and cause them to cease being alive, except they are somehow able to not stay dead and can (eventually) come back to life.
I think the destruction of Azeroth thing with the Titans not destroying them and all that, refers to some way of actually, completely "fo realz" destroying the Old Gods; some method that is somehow beyond the abilities of any regular old mortal or adventurer (no matter how many epics they may be wearing).

No, the Trogg's were a mistake and the actual fault of an Old God, but the Titan's weren't around for that incident. As for "Not Killing Old Gods" because the Titan's don't kill, no the elder beings realized if they killed the Gods, the world would be destroyed as well because the ancient creature's were connected to the planet's core.
