Raid success > HPS
(Hey, that rhymes.)
Does it really matter what your HPS is, as long as everyone is alive?
If its validating your raidspot your after, i really don't have much of a clue, but keep splashing heavy HL's on the meleegroup i guess?

It's good. In fact, I &*!@#ed over just about nothing. I still heal the exact same. I still gem exactly the same. Effective healing is still my strong suit, and raid healing is where you find that as a paladin. The Beacon change encouraged a few other paladins to do the same, which I'm happy about, but they should have been doing this in the old content too! >:Raid success > HPS

No, if it was a sloppy kill because raiders were dying thanks to your bad HPS, then the fact the boss' corpse now shimmers with loot shouldn't matter. In fact, if you weren't doing it to your full ability, I think you're a bad player. It's hard to measure this as a healer, but HPS is a good indicator to who was active, and effective HPS shows who's reaction time is spot-on, and overheal HPS only matters if you're crying for an Innervate every minute. As a Paladin this should be crystal clear, simply because you're casting every heal to react to incoming damage. (With a Disc priest you can track the absorption, so don't pull a fast one on me.) :]
HPS does matter.
If you think otherwise, you should try using FoL entirely. Go ahead; try. You're going to be king of the efficiency, but more than likely the tank you're assigned to heal will die simply because your HPS was halved by your stupid spell choice. Unless you want help on your target, you're outta luck! Some encounters call for multiple healers on a target, but even then, your HPS is what matters. If you want to say otherwise, fine. Be a subpar player. I honestly don't care as long as you're not in my raid!

Whats the formula for EHPS?
I usually subtract my overheals and add my absorbs to the Healing done(per boss fight). HPS is an indicater of how well you can heal enrage modes and massive AoE dmg.
It shifts through a fight. It's not very easily recognized as a number, but on a graph it definitely shows. Recount has the ability to graph out your EHPS, if you're looking for it. Recount also keeps overhealing and effective healing separate, so I imagine it can be put onto the same graph. Looking for points where there was a spike in AoE damage should be recognizable by the massive increase in your EHPS. If it isn't then what exactly were you doing instead?
I think WWS may have something similar, but our guild has some issues with Healing on WWS. (Like it doesn't even appear on the WWS report.)
