Kil'jaeden is stronger, one on one, he'd destroy the Lich king.... literally, just by snapping his finger he could unravel all that magic that is holding in the power of the Lich King, meaning you'd just see a dead body surronded by un-empowered armour.
As for why Kil'jaeden didn't go himself to destroy the Lich King.... he couldn't. Look at what happened at the Sunwell, he got his arse kicked out of our world. Apparently there is some shield around Azeroth(might be because of the Titans) that seems to keep the Legion from just teleporting to our world without a massive summoning powers (see Sargeras during War of the Ancients, Archimonde during War of the Ancients/Warcraft 3, and Kil'jaeden during the Sunwell). For some reason Draenor isn't like that, which is why he could appear on the planet there and put the fear of Doom into Illidan. Might have been because of the fact that planet was shattered now.

Because Illidan is screwed up in his head; in his mind he defeated Arthas, he wasn't beaten by the human. As for why he went back, that's where his army was. As for the other thing; again, you need a lot of summoner's to draw in a large scale Legion force, could be after Hyjal the human pawns were depleted and they weren't able to find enough to get a full scale invasion against the Lich.
Don't forget a few months before that they were beaten back the combined might of the Night Elves Humans and Orc's, they were still recovering.

From what has been shown, ever since Orc's vs Human, necromancy doesn't seem to work on the Legion, not sure if that's because of something the Dreadlord's did when they gave their magic to the Legion or what, but you don't see undead felguards and the like attacking their allies as they battle the Scourge.

This is a depressing post to any Scourge-lover :(
Of course, the Lich King's power is constanly growing, sooner or later...

I still say, if Blizzard doesn't want to remove the Death Knights and Forsaken, once the Lich King goes down, the Dreadlord's swoop in and take the reins and they are the new masters of the Scourge.... just like they were the old masters.
And it's remove as in kill due to the fact that without the Lich King to channel the power of Undeath, true Undeath I mean, all of his creatures, both those that serve him and those that rebelled will "die" due to the removal of that power.

Um, why would they need to remove the undead and death knights when the Lich King goes down?

well of course he could destroy the lich king but he can not enter out world. from what i assume from the sunwell and the war of the ancients books demons of his power can only be summoned into azeroth through a fount of powerful magic such as the well of eternity or the sunwell.
i could totally be wrong about this though.

What I mean Morec, is the idea that most of the undead, the creatures that the Scourge raised are tied into the Lich King himself. It's a literal case of "Kill the Head and the body follows", but I think the Dreadlords would show up to take over if the Lich King ever goes down.
