Cataclysm - Sooner Than We Think?

Now, the only thing Blizzard has said to indicate this is in the trailer, that bit about "While the war with the Lich King rages..." A lot of players seem to think that means we don't kill Arthas, I'm thinking differently. I think it might suggest we're going to get Cataclysm sooner than everyone is betting. Six months, or so, maybe?
God knows how long they've had a team on this so it theoretically could be nearly finished, right? Then think of it from a business perspective. WoW's getting old. Really old in terms of computer games, and with things like Aion and FFXII coming, they need something big. I'd say this expansion's going to be big. They're also re-doing a lot of classic stuff, to change the game from start to finish, making this effectively WoW2.0. Players that start with Cataclysm will NEVER level in Auberdine, or see many of the other things we'll so fondly remember. It's really like a new game.
Like I said, I have VERY little evidence from Blizzard, but this is just speculation (and a good gut-feeling) on my part. I'm off to work, but I'd love to read a page or more of your thoughts, Wowheaders.

Well they specifically said in a few of the panels that a lot of things
weren't
finished. I believe they did say however that we would be getting this expansion before the next Blizzcon rolls around. Blizzard does have a habit of pushing things back when they believe they're not ready, but I'm fairly confident this is a deadline they'll meet.
Keep in mind however we've still got patch 3.2.2 to go, after that sometime we'll definitely be getting 3.3. If they keep with tradition we'll get 4.0 a little before the expansion actually hits (though considering there are no new talents, this may not happen). Who knows how much filler content we'll get between 3.3 and 4.0, but it's been stated that 3.3 will be the last
major content
patch.
While that's not really an answer of any sort, I think we can look at how long we normally have between major patches and get an educated guess as to when the expansion will released. My money's on sometime between late summer to mid fall.

I believe that the trailer meant that while we are fighting in Northrend, that the forces of the cataclysm are building up. I think right after we
kill
defeat the Lich King, deathwing swoops in and goes "O HAI"

Patches x.0 are not only for talents, they're also for world changes. And guess what, they're MASSIVE MASSIVE LOT of world changes. Obviously we will get a patch before, they CAN'T do whithout. They simply can't. For this and for dozens of other things (caracteristics change, for example...).

But WotLK only came out a few months after the last major patch in BC, so I think we can porbably expect to see it relatively
soon.
Oh wow, for some reason that struck me as really funny, mind if I use it for my sig?

I dont think we can call that the new expansion is comming soon I just think they released the trailer just to make sure we are going to buy this expansion. It can even be released after 2 years of 3.3 (or 3.4) you never know it with blizzard.

It's true that patches aren't only for talents, and massive changes are on the way. We may get 4.0 before the expansion actually hits, but I don't know what they'd include in it. With the past two expansions they've given us talents and we've proceeded to go one shot each other with the new stuff.
I don't believe we're going to see the "new world" post Deathwing's destruction. That's simply
too
massive for a patch. We'd be downloading the entire world over again.

Did I hear something about flying in the old world. This alone could be a project and a half. If you have ever seen a pieced together map of the world you can see they originally had never planed to allow flying. There are many areas that there is just empty space because people would never have seen it so why waste time on models. Unless blizzard has been sitting on this a while I would assume we have a decent wait ahead of us just for those changes, let alone all the new content.
I think they have been working on this for a long time. Probably since BC came out and a want for fliers in Azeroth was apparent.
