Retribution Paladins are nothing like they were in vanilla or TBC.
I remember the days before Crusader Strike and Divine Storm, back when you had to keep casting seals every time you judged :-)
(MC with 5 minute blessings, anybody? xD)
But yea, as actual play-style goes, we got a pretty simple rotation:
(Stating some of the obvious, just to be thorough.)
Fire of a
Judgement
,
Divine Storm
and
Crusader strike
.
Use
Exorcism
when
AoW
is up
(which is usually the case with half-decent gear).
An occasional
Consecration
might be appropriate, when your not at risk of pulling aggro.
Then just fire of the spells as they come of cooldown. A real "rotation" isn't really an option for us, because the cooldowns for our spells just don't allow for it.
The only problem is when two spells come of CD at the same time, in which case you need to just prioritize one.
(Usually the one with the most damage.
Ex>DS>Judge>CS, generally.
Edit:
See
below
.)
That's the simple part, tho.
The mark of a good Paladin is how s/he uses the other talents:
Sacred Shield
: Should always be up. If not on you, then on the one that is taking the damage. And if you can spare the AoW proc, throwing a FoL on the shielded target gives a bit of extra healing.
Hand of Salvation
: Pretty self explanatory, but often forgotten talent. Can save a lot of trouble if your tank is a bit green, or your DPS is a bit to aggressive.
Hand of Protection
: Did a DPS accidentally pull aggro? Taunt failed?
(Just don't put this on the tank, whatever you do xD)
Hand of Sacrifice
: Combine this with
Divine Shield
and help the tank through a tough boss fight.
(Black Knight phase 3 comes to mind.)
And then there are the tanking talents, but pulling aggro is less helpful to a Retr then you might think :)
Edit:
O and yea, as stats go. Str->Hit
(Until capped)
->Crit->Stam->whatever.
(As a rule of thumb, at least, but move Stam higher for PvP.)
Most of the *spells* scale with AP now, as I understand it, so SP should not be seen on Retr gear, and our mana regenerates with
Judgements
and
Divine Plea
, so Int isn't really important.
just take my advice... seal of command is a broken talent..
Could you elaborate please?
I just return to off-speccing Retr myself. Thought SoC was "best" for PvP and trash PvE since they removed SoB/M.

Righteousness (if you target switch a lot) or Vengeance (if you stay on target until dead) are the PvP Seals.

See signature for why SoR > SoC now.
Seal of Command has been broken for a *long* time.

Ahh ok, thank you. I had heard about Retr choosing SoR over SoC, but the numbers didn't seem to add up on the surface. That explained it nicely.
But the fine-print people seem to forget to include is that to really gain an advantage from SoR, you need to spec 5 extra points into holy and/or glyph for it.
(/me goes hunting for 4 extra talent points.)
One thing, tho:
This means that no matter what the maths says about long-term useage, if you're in a position where you can cast Judgement more often than normal (eg, 2 Judgements over 10 seconds, rather than 2 Judgements over 16 seconds), then SoR is going to be favored.
How do you get down to a 5 second Judgement CD? :O

0.. Judge.. 9.. Judge..10
(ie: you dont have to wait for a cooldown on your first judge)

The fact that you can cram 2 Judgments into 10 seconds does not mean the ability has a 5 second CD. It just means the CD is less then 10 seconds.
And yea, I get the concept... Cramming a last second Judgment in there will obviously raise the DPS, but relative to the DPS from JoC, this is a very small increase, and it's would drop significantly the further you go from the ideal 9 second fight towards the 16 second mark.
Hardly something you would use to make a real distinction between the two Judgments.
But his post suggested a case where 2 Judgments covered 10 seconds,
rather than
16 seconds, which sounded to me like the Judgment CD was 5 seconds, rather than 8.
Perhaps just a misinterpretation of what he meant.
Damn... I was hoping for a way to reduce the CD to 5 seconds xD

Okay, I just have to say this is wrong.
Thanks for the correction.
I was Holy/Prot there for a good while, so details like that may have slipped a bit away from me.
Doesn't help that I have the memory of a goldfish either xD
One thing tho, why do you put Judge higher then CS on multi-target, but the other way around on single-target?

For AoE pulls, I always put Cons and DS first because I want to get as much AoE damage caused as possible.
That said, remember somethign very important. CS, unless soemthing changed that I don't know about, not only does weapon damage, but also counts as a melee attack that procs your seal damage at the same time. So in other words, you can a bonus seal proc with CS. Now that CS is on a shorter CD than it was before, you can get in more seal procs than before.
That said, the rotation is simple, first come first serve (FCFS) with priority to CS over all else. So if you see CS coming off CD, but something is coming up about a half second before, hit the CS first.
For a boss fight, using SoV, you might want to stock up on haste pots and use one at the start of the fight to get those stacks maxed as fast as possible and get a little more damage done.
