You can actually stay BM if you feel more comfortable there. I tried switching to MM for a bit and if you like fast attacks... MM is not for you. They're powerful, but much slower than a BM would shoot. Survival will generally have a better damage output just because it scales better with the gear before tier 9 than BM. Tier 9 however is pure BM love, but before that, you'll want to avoid some of the tier pieces as the vast amount of haste will put you far above the effectiveness cap when added to serpent's swiftness.
With some of the changes that were given to boost BM hunter dps overall in the last patch, you can still do decent dps, and the ferocious inspiration buff is good for everyone. (personally I think that BM and Survival just switched places in player priority between BC and WotLK).
yeah sounds good, I love Bm because of how fast it is, but ive always wanted to go MM for more / different attacks, but whatever works best for top raid DPS is what im going to stick with. thanks alot for your reply.
You can stay BM for a while, eps. if you have T7 gear, but as you get T8 & T9 gear, the other 2 specs VERY quickly outstrip BM. If you want to play BM get 2pc of 7.5 as soon as you can, and hold onto them as long as you can. I am currently running with 2 T7.5 and 2 T8.5

in addition, since the el-cheapo t9 is bought with just emblems of triumph and relatively low numbers of them, you can farm the daily heroic quests out of dalaran and work toward the t9 stats that will help you more than the t8 stats.
Yeah, BM is strange. If you want to run BM, then two 7.5 with two 8.5 is better than four 8.5, and two 7.5 with two 9 is better than three 9, so until you get four T9 or T9.5, it is best to hang on to two 7.5. I have the whole 7.5 set in my bank, and I swap in and out to keep 2 pieces as I replace others. It is pretty crazy :)

Just to provide some visual comparison.

even ignoring the set bonuses, the stats also show different tuning variations. I almost screamed Beast Master when I first saw the t9 stats.
Honestly a chance at 600 pet AP doesnt seem to be as strong as a flat 5% increased pet damage--however, the general stats are just so strong that it more than compensates. For me though, the spreadsheet shows that two pieces of 7.5 are superior to ALL except four pieces of 9. Hold onto those 7.5s :)
If you think about it, 5% pet damage for a BM who gets 40% of their damage from the pet is (napkin math) over 2% total damage. If their was a set-bonus that said "gives a flat 2% damage increase" we would all jump on it.
