Gouge -> Backstab. Worth switching mh for?

I leveling my newly made orc rogue (currently level 14) and I'm almost fully heirloomed up (just missing trinket). I've been told that I should level combat, with a slow mainhand and a fast offhand. So I've been weilding a heirloom sword in my mainhand and a heirloom dagger in my offhand. The thing is, I've been finding that I can take down mobs ALOT faster if I switch my weapons and use a Gouge - Backstab combo starting off the fight. It's making me consider trying leveling assassination or Sub (in which case I'd get two daggers). Any thoughts?

I personally leveled Sub & loved it. Not only was it extremely fun (Was originally a 29 Twink, but so fun, I decided to level it :P), mobs died in 2 hits (Ambush -> Evis) with the way I was spec'd.
They only say to go Combat, 'cause it's got +Parry & +Dodge and all that, but I personally hate it, and Sub trumps Com in every way. The utility & CDs allow you to get away easily if the *!@# hits the fan.
Get two, nice, big, slow daggers, and faceroll your way to 80 as Sub, but that's just my opinion :P
I'm liking what your saying. Could you offer me a spec? Also would you consider two
Balanced Heartseekers
slow enough? (speed is 1.7).

This
is pretty much what I used, though I'm sure someone whose better with numbers could make a better leveling spec.
Stealth -> Preparation -> Shadowstep -> Ambush -> Eviscerate (If not dead yet, Hemo X2-3 -> Eviscerate) is pretty much what I used, and I loved it. Wasn't so great for end-game DPS, but was for leveling :P
no Dual Wield Specilization? Or is the burst damage really that intence?

Mine too! :)
I have 4 rogue toons, I leveled my main as sub 1-80 and it was fun and quick, now I try 2 alts as combat (and now I have like 5-6 Heirlooms), it can't keep up.
ambush evis gouge backstab, can't get any faster.

Once you have access to mutilate and dirty deeds (usually northrend levels), you can grind single mobs at a time without ever taking damage. I remember leveling my 70 rogue months after wotlk came out specced as 41/x/22 by the 72-73 range with season 2 daggers. Using cs->mut->ks->mut->mut->evisc, most 10k hp mobs died within the kidney.
This means questing with absolutely 0 downtime, no need to eat, no need to bandage.
Your mileage may vary pre 72 though, due to not having enough energy to do the full combo (dirty deeds reduces cs cost by 20).

well, as an update. I've done the deed and am now leveling as Sub. I'm loving it and as I am near level 20 I should ask now. What glyphs should I consider for leveling sub and what poisions are best suiting for my play style as of right now? (ambush - evis/SS)

double wound, glyph of gouge / ambush or evis maybe even ghostly strike, meh since the backstab glyph change the options aren't looking that good.
