As for gear, it's stupidly easy for us. Does it have spell power? Good. Does it have spirit or hit? Bad.

Never cast a heal on tank, unless it is for sacred shield hot.
.
Really? I'm just learning about pally healing and I'm surprised to see this. Would you (or someone else) please explain why?
Thanks.

You would also want to cast LoH directly on your tank if you spec into Imp. LoH (which you should do) because the 20% mitigation buff from that talent won't transfer from beacon. But yeah Imp. LoH and SS HoT are the only times there would ever be an advantage to healing directly on your tank (as long as, as Caean said, you're paying attention to all your timers and cooldowns and such).

I thought only holy shock, holy light and flash of light worked through beacon, has LoH actually been tested to work that way?
The heal from LoH will work just fine, it's the talent that provides a temporary mitigation buff that doesn't go through beacon.

Chances are you will be focusing on tank healing and as such HL will be your best friend when it comes to harder instances. When its a 2 tank fight you will be golden beaconing 1 tank, sacred shielding the other. keep the FoL hot up one the one then HL spam away and profit on meters.
Int is your friend. It lost some value with patches but I believe it to still be vital to keep If a set bonus is lack luster and its forcing a blue gem, just use 2 int gems. Red gems SP helps to pop in and complete set bonuses. SP for a Holy Pally isn't as important until later on, int being your buddy until you get into harder raiding where bigger heals become key.
SoW Glyph will help alot with HL spamming and once you have a good base of mana and need bigger heals switching to SoL glyph will work well.
Starting off make sure to specc into Ret for the extra crit. Though the mana return was nerfed the extra crit will help until you get a better base of gear then switching over to Holy/Prot will bring greater returns on healing.

ummmm..
no.
SP is important at the beginning... not important later on.
The harder instances don't require bigger heals... they require more regen so you can cast your HL longer.
Don't use the SoL glyph.
Edit:
I fail at spelling.
