It's a bit hard if you don't have about 1200/1300+ heal, but it's not difficult.
The only reason you would ever need an instant heal is if you suck - otherwise it's all about prediction and pacing.
That said, Resto shaman have Nature's Swiftness, which is - uh - well it makes instant heals.

I was wondering about the same thing, if I can heal heroics but I guess I need more +healing since I only have 1178 right now, but I'm wondering should I work on stam or just int & +healing? I have around 7k health..donno if I can survive a hit heh
and what instance should I do to practice my healing on heroics?
Thanks in advance ^-^

the general feeling (imo) on the easiest heroic is Mechanar. if you need a normal instance to practice healing just about all of TK is pretty good.
7k health to start off with till you get better gear is fine. Hopefully you get a decent tank that won't allow you to get hit. just remember that you can put ES on yourself if it starts to look hairy.
unfortunatly i've had to keep ES on myself in a couple of instances but that's to be expected with pugs sometimes.
cool, I'll keep those tips in mind, Thanks ;)

Jip, it is just a coincedence. And not having a instant heal, well in that case druids and shamans are not far apart. Paladins have a instant heal, once every minute or so ? but if they do it is just a small heal.
It is about how you heal and how you anticipate when you heal, instant heals are not needed if you know what you are doing and maybe more inportant what your group is doing :)

I would say resto shammies are the best heroic healer. My shammy has healed heroics since +1000 healing. With gear from normals. Now I have +1589 healing and can heal anything.. Keept two tanks up in Heroic SH, bc we are the only healers with a low cost aoe heal.

Shaman are incredible healers. In heroics, it's all about keeping the tank topped off, even if that means using a lower rank heal. You should be constantly casting and never let the tank go below 50%. With 1500+ healing, you can use rank 5-7 Healing Wave to keep the tank at full life.
Shaman have Nature's Swiftness which can be tied to a macro which will make any heal instant. When your group is under a great deal of AoE damage, use chain heal. Also, your group members should know to stand close together for chain heals. If they lack that knowledge, let them know.
I've successfully healed every heroic on my Shaman. With my Paladin, I have a hard time with AoE damage: for instance, the first boss in heroic BM. My solution for that guy is to buff everyone with Blessing of Light and go to town on spamming Flash of Light. However, my Shaman has it made and that's why my Shaman is my main.
With the new changes to Water Shield and Mana Spring, we have some really nice mana regen.
