In no particular order:
Khadgar
Broxigar (sp?)
Alleria Windrunner
Kurdran Wildhammer (
so
glad that they brought him to the fore in Cata)
Taretha Foxton
- If it weren't for her, there would be no Horde as we know it today. The epitome of a good person. Such trajedy. :(

In order?
Grom Hellscream:
I have always admired his strength and honor.
Broxigar the Red:
Only mortal being know to wound Sargeras. He DEMANDS your respect.
Medivh:
Powerful, mystical and, to me, a bit mysterious. Karazhan is still my favorite instace.
Thrall:
Truly a great leader.
The Old Gods:
I count them as a single entity, because I don't believe for a second that they haven't been working toward a single goal. I also believe they were once a single entity. They are mysterious and to an extent even frightening.

Alliance Affiliated
Kael'thas Sunstrider. His awesomeness and engaging storyline haw been repeated enough by now I would believe.Kael was never Alliance allied; he was part of the Lordaeron forces of the Third War.

But he was prince of the High Elves, and they were with the Alliance during the Second War as well as Third. True he didn't do much fighting until afterwards, but wouldn't that still make him Alliance affiliated? At least in passing?

No, that would make him Grand Alliance affiliated.

Why, you just proved it for me; the Alliance as we know it formed after the Battle for Mt Hyjal, which was made up of Theramore, Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus and Gnomeragon: Kael had already started forming the Blood Elves at that point and he was stuck in the north with the few remaining Lordaeron survivors of the Grand Alliance.

The first part of your post there, where it says Alliance(Grand Alliance); he wasn't part of the actual one which is stated in the OP. A large majority of Kael's actions were preformed after he bailed on the suicide missions that Garithos set him and his people up on.
As seen in the RPG books, the Blood Elves were a cross between Chaotic Neutral and Evil during the time before they joined up officially with the Horde.

Original Post; under those guide lines, Kael falls under the 'Other' or 'Evil' section, since he never technically allied with the Horde or the Alliance instead going against them both; he and Garithos and even Admiral Proudmoore were all hold overs of the Grand Alliance, which is why the Admiral's assault on Durotar is usually left off the lists of things the Alliance has done to the Horde, as that one was an outside force.

He's got a point. HiVolt likely meant it in the context of the organization's former incarnations as well, like Arathor.

Actually he wasn't an 'obvious' part of the Second War; he wasn't mentioned once in any of the supplementary materials, and doesn't really appear till the time frame of Day of the Dragon/few years before the Third War.
And if you add together the time frame, he was serving the Grand Alliance(or as the link edited in shows) for about 3-4 months before being jailed and breaking apart from it and falling under the command of Illidan.
All I'm saying, he's not really an Alliance hero, just like he's not a Horde either just because he's a Blood Elf.
Edit: From a link on Kael's page:
he was part of the New Alliance
.
