I just got my rogue to 80, and to be honest, in the few days I've had to gear, half my armor is epics, the rest are quest blues, and I can pull about the same amount of dps my Retadin could in full epics...so yeah, you pretty much wreck stuff if you know what you're doing.

Rogues do bring small buffs ( Master Poisoner and Savage Combat ) but yeah, the role of a rogue is to top charts.

At the moment Rogues are considered a "Meh" spec. There's not much to say about them. They're very good at World/BG PvP as you'd expect but are somewhat lacklustre in high-end Arena PvP. I remembered reading a forum post by a 2000+ ranked Disc Priest a month ago and his reply was "what burst?" in a Rogue Forum. That is to say Rogues are no longer the burst kings in arena anymore they're just there for CC while the Arms Warrs/Locks are there to provide the burst and do the killing while the Rogue is just there to KS the burst-target and CC the healer etc.
As for end-game Raiding, well Rogues don't provide any unique raid-buffs at all and they're being out-dps'd by Arcane Mages, Unholy DKs, Fury Warrs, Destro Locks
etc
. And really why roll a pure DPS class that doesn't provide any substantial raid benefits, when you can roll a stronger dps or even a hybrid that can tank aswell? Which is why as of now Rogues are one of the more under-respresented, and dare I say it "underpowered", classes in WotLK.
Although you won't feel shunned when looking for end-game Raid Groups. Rogues still provide excellent dps and our CC is bar-none the best you can get in Arena. I would roll one if I were you anyway, you wanting to play one should be enough regardless of how they perform endgame. Things may change by the time you're a well-geared, well-versed level 80 Rogue. Do it.

Who cares what a 2k+ ranked priest says because like it or not most people will never see such numbers.
From a PVE point of view though people might have a point. Rogues bring nothing much to the raid and seem to just make up numbers. They have less armour than other melee dps so are harder to keep alive for unskilled healers. They dont provide any real buffs (warrs have battle and commanding shouts, druids have Imp FF and GOTW dk's have the horn thingy) You'll get more invites as a lock or mage or druid dps than a rogue. The rotations can get really boring also but i assume this could be the case with all classes.
Conclusion= rogues are great for PVP but at the moment lack utility and versatililty in PVE therefore they get less respect in a raid enviroment. (im my opinion)
I have a lvl 80 rogue and a 80 priest and i'm playing my rogue less and less in PVE because of the above mentioned points.

I have a rogue friend who excels at PvE and PvP. I have never seen him below second in Bg's, and even then he always has the most damage done.
In PvE he is doing the most dps out of the raid.
All i can say is that this is like those OMG PRIESTS CAN ONLY HEALZ LOL!11!1one!

rogues are naturally a solid pvp choice due to their large number of cooldowns and moreso stealth allowing them to pick their fights and engage in combat on their own terms but no class is designed strictly for pvp or pve
as for buffs rogues are primarily a debuff class, the opposite end of the spectrum from a pally/shaman but no less valuable
some classes buff everyone and go superhero on a target, some bring debuffs for everyone to stomp all over a common target , some take the middle ground offering a few buffs and debuffs but they're all valuable assets

Saying doing well in BGs means you're good in PvP is similar to saying that doing poorly in dungeon groups means you're bad at PvE.

Rogues are there like has been said, to top the damagemeters. I don't see how that can be considered "broken", reade up a bit before you trow bull^&*! around.

From the same article:
Or reality could set in and people would realize that there’s a 99% chance this is all garbage. Win trading is when two teams pruposefully go against each other and pick a dead time to queue against each other. They trade wins back and forth and thusly get a rating up. How else would you think a team in their 1800 ish rating got to 2500+ in 3 days? Especially with all that previous PVP experience and all that gear.
