not sure you want to add it in, but a HOR strat I ran with a group this morning given the tank wasn't fantastically geared and I was running ret and pulling aggro occassionally, is in the gauntlet, they stay
behind
the Lich King.
When you first run out there is a little ledge to the left. We ran out there and stayed there while the first wave of ghouls came at us. We cleaned them up and then followed the LK along the path - making sure there was reasonable distance between him and us.
It pretty much gave the tank and healer an easier task of managing the mobs and the group. The larger mobs spawn just behind the LK and the tank was able to pick them up quicker. It would most likely be a noob tanking strat to take some pressure off those tanks a little less geared than the dps. We pretty much nailed that timer achievement easily.

Tried this today, and although it works, you should be careful when following this strategy. It's important not to get too close to the LK, or abominations spawn right on top of the party, resulting in random spits/cleaves that could cost you your healer or a damage dealer.

I don't see how you are disagreeing with me.
1.) I do talk about the advantages and disadvantages about both strats, and you just listed them back to me.
If you are in the middle of the room the table provides line of sight issues and they come from all sides.
If you are in the corner, you have screen of sight issues, where you can't see jack and everyone is bunched up taking AOE damage.
2.) Your strategy sounds great, CC and proper DPS is how the instance is suppose to be done, I agree, BUT, your not going to get a party that is going to do exactly what you want.
Either a your going to need to deal with a constant typing of instructions, or B your going to need to make up for the work that is not being done by the other members.
If your CC is good and your DPS is bad, your going to end up with waves overlapping on you as as well. Paladin tanking is all about AOE and controlling 3-5 mobs together. Just because a pull is hard, doesn't mean that we should nerf ourselves and fall into a single tanking element.
Right now I'm using a hybrid strategy whenever I tank HOR. I start inside the small room with the rest of the group and as soon as the waves spawn i run to outside of the room and group my mobs together using AS and HW. If you have a mage at range, your AS will silence it, if you have a hunter at range, then just go to the hunter bringing the rest of the mobs with you, if he is really too far, run around the corner for 2 seconds and then run back out.
What characters do you play on btw? I'm trying to find a armory for you but can't.
Cheers,
Hat
p.s. Side thought here as i was else where: The mobs like to work together, so maybe you thought that hunter wasn't doing so much damage at the time, and that the mage was rocking your tank or DPS, its because they have
skillz
.

The Oculus is done.
This was a long one.....a really really really long one ....really really really really long one. 24000+ characters. Which means that its over the 15000 character limit. the HOR one was about 12000 characters with another 4000 characters in tanking methods. So for that one i split it into 2 posts. I didn't like doing that, and I didn't want to do it with this post as well. To over come this problem I have registered for the premium account. Now that my post limit has been boosted to 45000 characters I will be doing some edits to the HOR post in the next day or so.
Whats next?
HOR post edited. Both to consolidate the post and to change up some tanking strategies. I have tanked it 20 times now and there are defiantly some changes to the tanking of the first waves.
Tanking Tips consolidated with some helpful add on and how to use them. Also will write up a usefull talents and specs list for heroics
Guide for H UK is next. I need a small one damn it. OCC was way too long.
As always, Please give me feed back, spelling corrections, and more strat tips and tricks.
I will be reading it over myself tomorrow for spelling and grammer edits, it was just so long that i wanted to get it posted ASAP so i could clear my head a bit. >_<
I have updated the credits to properly disply all the people that effected the content of the HOR post.
I have also added in the dedication for OCC.
Thanks guys.
Cheers,
Hat

For Oculus
This is not correct.
Button 1 = Searing Wrath
Button 2 = Evasive Maneuvers
Button 3 = Martyr
There is no Evasive Aura button.
Thank you for this edit, when I was writing the guide i hadn't be on a Red drake in some time. I will make the changes later.
Also, if you are taking the tank drake (i.e. Ruby Drake), then you don't need to target the whelps. Just target the boss, and your Searing wrath will kill off the whelps really really fast. Keep Martyr on CD, spam Searing Wrath, and use Evasive Maneuvers when you can.
While there is no need to switch targets,
Searing Wrath
Increases damage as it jumps.
Because each target jump increase the damage is it best to select targets with lower health to attack, in hopes that the beam will jump to a target with high health and do more damage. Attacking the summoned whelps first in the boss fight is the most effective use of this attack.
I wrote that in the guide.
For the Amber Drakes - you don't need to rotate Shock Lance and Channeling ability. You only need to rotate Time Stop since that is the only ability with a CD. It tends to be easier if you just have one Amber Drake on Temporal Rift duty, while the other 2 Shock Lance away. Then, they only need to coordinate time stops. Makes it much easier for newer people to learn.
Its always much easier to so something the wrong way than to do it the right way. Shock Lance and the Channeling ability must be rotated by each Drake, as each drake has its own
Shock Charges
If one Drake is using only Temporal Rift, then you end up with Incredibility LESS DPS overall.
This point becomes abundantly clear if you try and fight Eragos with 5 amber drakes. If 3 drakes put up Temporal Rift while the other 2 attack, and then after one attack they switch, the Shock charges for each drake build up and get expended so quickly that after 5 seconds of combat Eragos will be forced to his first phase transition.
Thank you for reading, I will make the button changes later tonight after I go into Oculus and confirm it.
Cheers,
Hat

Wow, I completely misunderstood the Amber Drake abilities. My bad. You are right. I can't believe how I've been doing it wrong all this time....lol. /facepalm
Just so I make sure I completely understand the Amber drake rotation, does it go like this:
1) Temporal Rift until 10 Shock Charges (not for full duration, but just until a 10 stack)
2) Shock Lance x1
3) Repeat
4) Time Stop per agreed rotation.
Yup that's basically right.
If you are on a VOIP program like ventrilo, you can do crazy DPS with your friends. You can say, Don't use your Shock Lance, until you see my Temporal Rift go up.
See what happens then is the follow.
One guy keeps up Temporal Rift and the other guy shoots once. That damage will give the guy with temporal rift 2 shock chargers. While 2 shock chargers is nice, its not the best. BUT if you have it set up so that as soon as the first guy shoots, he puts up his temporal rift, and then the guy with 2 charges shoots, the second shot with the additional damage from the 2 chargers will give the first guy 4 charges now. He drops his rift, waits for the other guys, and then shoots. His 4 shock chargers give 8 charges to the other guy.
Pretty soon, your just alternating shots, and each shot gives the other guy 10 charges worth of damage. He in return, sends it right back.
Sorry, I know that description is a bit confusing.
Also, one more interesting point is that, because you won't be using time stop until about 20 seconds into the fight. You have have one Amber drake Time stop before the pull. This will give that amber drake 5 shock charges on the boss before the fight even starts. Then you can tell the other 2 drakes to put up their rifts. Using temporal rift on the boss does not aggro him. With the first shot from that amber drake, the 2 drakes that were channeling at the time will get 6-9 chargers instantly.
All in all, it equals some face-melting DPS.

Hat
