I...
... went Engineer. As a Priest (mind control cap, parachute...yeah). Who loathes PvP. As my first toon and in need of money. *sigh*
... spammed Holy Nova in deadmines at level 10 while my friends/guildies rounded mobs up to kill so I could gain the exp/loot them...and I didn't understand why I kept dying -- It SAYS those effects generate no threat, I should be invisible to them! And I'm only level 10 how am I more dangerous than my level 80 friend? My friends had some fun explaining the finer points of Threat and Aggro to me.
... stayed in the Draenei start area until about level 24 because I did not feel at all ready to face my PvP server (see above about loathing PvP...but it's where my friends play, so I deal). I complained to my friends that I shouldn't have to worry about world PvP until I was at least level 40.
... was afraid to sell on the auction house because I thought everyone would think badly of me for being a n00b. I thought it was really a lot more social interaction than it was, and I was a very shy n00b.
... thought the Need button would assess for which toon an item was the bigger upgrade, though I understood Greed just fine for some reason.
... got lost every time I had to travel around Stormwind, oh man, I hated Stormwind then.
... got mad that I couldn't both Wand and cast spells while I saw other classes could do regular melee attacks WHILE doing their specials. The fact I could melee, too (if for some dumb reason I really wanted to) was lost on me. As far as I was concerned, my wand WAS my melee equivalent, not my mace. And at any rate hunters autofire while shooting their specials, and why can't I wand while casting, Blizzard! Took a while before I calmed down about that whole thing.
... thought that if I wasn't an enchanter the only "enchants" I could use were those armor kits that leatherworkers make.
... was VERY disappointed with how fishing worked, having played UO.
... was at Coilfang Reservoir before someone told me how to go underwater as a ghost -- I'd never died far enough underwater to that point to be unable to rez from the surface.
... thought Mind Flay was the most useless spell that could possibly be conceived and couldn't understand why people kept telling me to pick up this worthless, 42 damage (I think) channelled ability at the expense of one precious, precious talent point. I didn't know that I could train up ranks of spells gained from talents and thought it would forever do 42 damage.... The happy squeal I made when I finally, still untrusting, picked it up and used it for the first time....

On my first toon got lost in Dun Morogh (around lvl 9 or 10 or so) and mistook Gnomeregan for Iron Forge. Ran in, took the elevator down and spent the better part of an hour literally dieing to get out!

1. Had no idea what the colors meant in item tooltips. Asked my friend to make a blue shirt to match my pants back in the day and he raged at me.. wonder why :P (the dude couldn't afford pretty much anything ingame)
2. Stacked all kinds of gear on my hunter, basically what looked good, i equipped it
3. Thought only critters could be skinned. And seriously, i wondered why is profession leveling so slow..

On my hunter, I tried with all my might to save up the 16 gold to buy
this
off the AH just because it was a polearm. Course I could never get that mass of gold.
When I started enchanting back in BC, I would ask the almighty level 70's in my old guild if they wanted me to enchant their bracers with +5 hp; just wanted to be a useful little level 20.
Thought quests were slow and boring, so I literally grinded to 48 before I started questing.
Had to ask in trade "Wut are mats?"

Thought the 'Very Long/Long/Medium/Short' time of the auction house was how long the item of clothing was. Like if a cloak was up for 'Very Long' then it was a long cloak.

My first lvl 70 might have been a druid but I didnt like the casting animation of Wrath so I started leveling a pally instead. I liked the concept of a white knight in shiny armour.
A random guy gave me 1g when I was around lvl 30 on my first character. That was the first time I had gotten that much money and I thought he had given me almost all the money he had.
On horde servers my first toon was a warlock and I was in WC when a warrior needed a Druid of the Fang set item. I thought it was completely unfair for a warrior to need a leather item so I ninja'd a mail item and explained why. Well that was an awkward situation lol...
