I started playing with my brother, who already had two 80's, about a year and a half ago. He helped me alot, but screwed me up too. I was spreading my talent points around on my rogue a little, getting the improved stealth talents in sub spec, he told me to pick one tree, so I respec, and all combat after that. I played with him alot until 60, using refer-a-friend. He was playing an elemental shaman, so he would root a mob, start casting lightning bolts, and I would run like hell to get in a couple shots before it died.
Having no stealth talent, when alone, I would pull with my throwing weapon, trade blows till it died, and bandage. Every fight. He taught me to pull with thrown, he didn't play rogue, at least I was only facing one at a time. When I got Blade Flurry, I thought it was awesome, I could hit two at once if I got an add.
He ported me to Outland at 58, I never went back to train until 66 or 67, didn't know where the portals were. A few ranks on my abilities helped alot. Damn those boars outside Thrallmar.
Anyway, made it to 80 with my rogue. Never entered an instance, or a battleground. 80 rogue with no idea how to play his class.
I have since leveled a warlock to 80, a hunter to 74, and have a few lowbies, hunter and lock leveled in AV, (I heard they nerfed the XP in battlegrounds since then). Now I am leveling an enhanced shaman using LFD alot. Playing what I missed the first few times.
I will never be good, the only typing class I took was in 1988, but I still love to play. Maybe I will be ready to raid in Cataclysm.

I leveled a druid as my first toon. I had no idea what I was doing, I remember hitting level 27 and giving up because it took too long to level...
Are you sure you're not me? My first toon was also a druid that i got to 27 and gave up. With that said here's a quick list of my foolishness:
-Level a druid as balance since start.
-Never using spells on a mage (i got him to 20 and deleted 'cuz it was to hard).
-Selling mats to vendors.
-On my first toons i never done a quest, only grind and LFD.
-If i died i would delete the toon and make a new one.
-Get to lvl 10 and thinking it was much, then at 12 noticing i got the hair color wrong and reroling.
-Asking when i get a pet as a druid, mage, warrior and rogue.
That's all i can remember now, but i'm sure there's more.

Heh yeah, I know how it feels. My brother already had a level 80 too at that time and created a new character so he could level in RaF with me. I obviously didn't know anything about my class (warrior) but at least he could give me a few tips, but that didn't help that much either. If we weren't leveling together, I was dieing all the time, seriously. Couldn't really pick my talents or choose what skills to start with etc.
It all turned out okay though; I had fun and I still do :>

started then game was fresh.
Saw on the cover the paladin class was in this game and thought "wow, a mean killing machine". At higher levels i found out how screwed i was(holy holy holy mantra).
- Got invited to a grp and had no idea how to talk in party. I just accepted the box, then the other started to talk to me in party chat i said nothing.
- Was invited to a guild, but did not understand why there was so many people talking to me in that green text.
- Did not know you could heal in combat, so i did fight a mob thne healed. Learn the secrets from a fellow paladin then he helped me with the weapon quest. Think he really thought i was a noob and let me follow after him while he rode there:)
- Spend a whole MC just cleansing. Officer was talking in officer chat about my low heals, then one officer pointed out i did around 95% of all cleansing in MC. Found this out later by my class leader, perhaps not total noob but close up there:)
- Thought BG was hell, so never touched that stuff until end of vanilla. Perhaps not too far off there hmm.

...thought I could 'solo' Hogger at level 9.
...thought Engineering was the profitable proffession.
...thought jumping off cliffs were faster way to travel than walking down and I wouldn't take damage.
I could go on for days

I...
tried to speak with an horde. I thought he was just being rude when typing all the random letters in Orcish.
I rolled on all the items in my first dungeon because I didn't know what would happen if I clicked greed.

I remember being scared to death on my warrior back in vanilla, walking up the big hill from the relative safety of Durotar to the Barrens for the first time.

I was lucky when I started out (about 6-7 months before WOTLK) and had several real life friends and my boyfreind already playing. I never really had the issue with gold as most other people did. When I logged in for the very first time, on my very first toon (BE Pally) a couple friends were waiting at the starting point and gave me 50 gold and taught me a few of the basics before wandering off to do high lvl shenanigans. I quickly discovered I had no clue what I was doing, put talents where ever looked cool. Didn't discover I could actually heal myself until about lvl 15.
I got bored with her at lvl 20 (I still have her as my banker, don't have the heart to delete her) and made a string of other toons until I settled on my much beloved druid (I didn't want to make a horde druid because I thought the Tauren were ugly and I didn't like the Lion kitty form, but I gave in and fell in love with the class)
Had a few nooby moments on her but my biggest was shortly after I hit 80 (Naxx was still the bees knees)
I was wandering around Dal and inspecting other boomkins to see what was out there for me when I saw one that had a strange looking weapon. I inspected it and quickly discovered it was wearing a dagger. Now, I called hax because druids were only supposed to carry staves and maces. I asked my boyfriend and he, having never played a druid, didn't know what all weapons they could carry. I quickly went to all the weapons trainers and discovered, not only could I carry daggers but also fist weapons (to this day I haven't had a fist weapon however) I was rather excited for this new weapon possibility and was always waiting for one to drop that I could use, didn't get my first one until Ulduar =P
I am now back to carrying a staff but still laugh that I played my druid to 80 thinking I couldn't have a dagger.

...I thought 1g was an amazing amount and called the people who said WTS 500g Hackers..
....I Didn't know what talents were, or rather I had no idea how to use them so i just clicked stuff.
....I Was scared of the high level mobs in Stormwind and the map was so huge I ran away screaming.. didn't come back until I was on my level 58 DK...
.....I Didn't know what dungeons were so I always asked, hey, "How you get those last names?" When a friendly level 60 DK ran me through a dungeon I kept telling them they were like the most awesome player in the world.. I meant it.. He must've thought I was an idiot..
...I ... oh crap this is a frigging good one... I somehow found out the /bow /kneel emotes and whenever I did a quest or met that high priestess on the saber in telldrassil I /bowed at the npc and walked backwards 10 paces... I also /salute every single time I killed a mob. Did this until level 15.. I was crazy.
Oh yeah, I was so scared of the "Boss" quest mobs in the level 1 zone I just skipped it entirely.. until I cam back 2 levels later to try.

...I didn't know hunters were supposed to use bows until I was level 30.
...I thought that gold was hard to obtain, and continued to think thus until part way through WotLK when I made 20k on the AH in a day.
...I thought that my hunter could tank because he was BM.
...I didn't know that shadowmeld could be seen through.
...I thought that ? meant I wasn't close enough to see the targets level.
...I thought "raiding" meant a bunch of 20s trying to gank people in the Barrens.
What a wonderful world the world of warcraft was way back when.
