The first instance I did was Shadow Labs. : /
At low levels, I thought the only way to train skills was to go back to your starting area.
I never changed my hearthstone until level 54. And it was still at my starting area... : / And I still hadn't gotten the FP I took 1 hour and a half to get.
I was with a twink druid, who was twinking for 39. Ardent Custodian dropped from a common mob in STV. I am a Mage, and I rolled need. Sold, logged, logged on again. Thought it would sell for a lot more on a vendor.

I thought...
...my items will break more often cause it said ur items lost durability, which made me sad when i had greeenies on me
...killing a mob with serpent sting would prevent quest drops like meat, undamaged pelt etc:D
...someone jumpin in the water might scare ma fish
...terrified when i first met defbuff "chance to drop weaon on hit" thing
...i could ride ma pet so i first roll a hunter

I remember wanting to learn dual wield on my gnome warlock as soon as I hit 20, thinking I could use two swords instead of my staff of conjuring. =D
Oh, and I thought ritual of summoning was used to rez people. I didn't actually figure out how it worked until someone in stockades described the entire process to me.

On my dwarf hunter I got slightly bored at around level 9 and I decided to venture through Loch Modan to Wetlands with my friend. He wanted to turn back and I kept going, dying every 2 minutes or so. Good times (and yes I did reach Menethil Harbor).
Also, my first Deadmines group (when I played on US servers initially) consisted of 5 people in almost full white gear (myself included). We had all bought gear from vendors and, needless to say, we wiped a lot.
And when I was poor starting out, I begged everyone for money. I would ask people for 25 silver, and, at the time (more people were nice back then), people would give me it. One guy, a human mage if I remember correctly, said he would mail it to me (I did /who ironforge and just whispered everyone). About an hour and a half later, I got a mail from him with 25 gold in it. I had no idea just how much it was at the time, and I made sure to upgrade my gear - the money didn't last long.

Newbism can occur when switching factions; actual conversation with a lvl16 human rogue (alt of a 70 Orc warrior):
Them: Can you help me complete an assassination quest? I have to kill two lvl 31s.
Me: How did you make it that far in the questline as a lvl 16?
Them: Took a while, since I couldn't find the Alliance Blimps.
Me: Alliance has no blimps. We use ships. They float on water.
Them: Really? So I have to go to Booty Bay every time I want to cross?
Me: No, there's a ship from Menethil that goes to Theramore.
Them: Oh! I ended up swimming across the ocean from Menethil because I couldn't find the blimp!
Me: ...

Well, I have yet to see anything in the same LEAGUE as my noobish nature when I began to play. x3
First off, this is the first online RPG I've ever played, so when I started I hadn't the slightest clue how controls worked, and I was too lazy to read the manual to find out. I thought, "Eh, I'll pick it up pretty quick I think." ...oh my lord was I wrong about that. I spent the first couple HOURS of my WoW experience walking around Shadowglen, running up to random creatures hoping I'd start attacking something. As you can imagine, that didn't work too well. ;)
I tried randomly spamming every button on the keyboard to see if I could find a button that did anything useful, but to no avail. ^^'' I tried clicking on things with the left mouse button and running up to them, but that didn't work either, so I tried right clicking and being a hunter at the time, I SHOT ARROWS AT THEM!!! ZOMG! Brilliant aren't I? =3
So, after about half an hour, I picked up on how to attack things. But eventually, I ran out of bag space! Oh noes! I had a bunch of stuff in my bag that I could have sold, but instead I just destroyed it, not realizing I could even sell them.
Anyway, I could go on for quite a while about all the stupid things I did, but the main point issss.....it took me the entire free month to get out of Shadowglen. Something that now takes about 2 hours. So yeah. Impressive, eh?
Please, more. Please do go on. This is quite enjoyable to read. Well, if you insist. ;)
How about them abilities you get from class trainers? Pretty useful huh? I didn't know you could purchase them till I had already been playing for about two weeks. At the time, I had made a friend with a guy after forming a group to take on the "terrors" of the dreaded spider cave. *shudder* I dueled him all the time. We were both NE hunters, but I was one level higher so I always ended up winning by a little bit. But at level 8 that all changed when he made the discovery that you could buy new abilities (he beat the hell outta me with serpent sting and arcane shot, and I sorta flooded him with messages begging him to tell me where he learned such powerful moves).
Ah, that server was an odd one. Every night a large group of the level 1 noobs who just go around naked /dance ing with everyone as well as (at the time) a level 12 NE druid, and a level 37 Human Paladin (I marveled at how short he was, x3) would dance with each other in the part of Shadowglen where new NE's first come into the world. I remember being so envious of that level 12 druid. He could transform into a bear!! *gasp!*
And how about that first time encountering a level 10 hunter with a pet? "ZOMG!! WHERE'D YOU GET THAT???" He never did tell me. He just let his pet kill me in a duel and ignored my questions about where to get a pet. ='( Can't tell you how long I went around asking people how to get a pet.
Another very memorable moment was my first trip to Darkshore. I took the Hippogryph for the quest to bring fish samples to a guy in the inn at Auberdine. (at this point I had finally gotten a pet; Nightsaber Stalker) But when I got off the Hippogryph, my pet was gone! I walked around but he wouldn't come back. =( (at the time I didn't know about the "Call Pet" spell I had gotten along with my tame pet ability, and I didn't know I could get him from the Stable Master in Auberdine.) So I just went out of Auberdine, following the path right (towards Ameth' Aran, didn't know this though) and as I was walking, I pulled aggro on a level 14 Moonstalker (I was level 12 or 13 at the time) and got totally raped. After I rezzed, I ran back to Auberdine and flew back to Rutheran Village, ran through the portal to Darnassus and didn't go back to Darkshore until I was at nearly level 17 when I could "safely" solo the "powerful" creatures that lurked there. *shifty eyes*
From levels 10 to about 15, I spent most of my time grinding harpies in the Oracle Glade (low level ones in the front, didn't know the place behind the moonwell even existed) to get money from the stuff they dropped. (I thought when I got my first silver I was rich) And gettting to 25 silver was HUGE for me. ^-^ I didn't get my first gold until I was in the level 20 range. I had no idea how to work my professions, just picked two random ones that I don't remember at the moment.
At level 18 I entered Astranaar and almost immediately got invited to a "raid" on the Crossroads. Had ABSOLUTELY NO idea where the heck that was, but I figured the guys with me could protect me from anything there. The group was a bunch of low 20's. About five of us, actually. I think we were in a regular group, not a raid. (the group was obviously a bunch of guys just as noobish as I was.) On the way, someone asked us where we were going and the group leader told him Crossroads. He said in a nutshell, "You're trying to raid WHERE?" Then he just lol'd and kept going the other way. We didn't listen to him though. We got to the entrance to the barrens and everyone wiped. Fast. We all tried corpse running through, but it didn't work too well. ^^'' It was only recently that I discovered (on a new Orc rogue file) there is an offroad path to the left that we could have used to go right around the outpost guarding the Barrens. -.- Either way, we weren't raiding Crossroads. Seriously. Honestly, I'm ashamed that they could be worse than me when it came to noobishness. I went cuz I didn't know. They knew where they were going and went. That's stupid enough for insult right there. Anyways..
That's all for now. If anyone else wants to hear more noob stories, I'm chock full of em. And be aware, I'm only up to 18 so far. I made it as far as level 30. (though by that point, I was actually a fairly decent player)

...thought "Mara" and "Kara" were twin sisters...
Hahahahahahaha! Omg you made me laugh there xD
Anyway i was a noob to, didn't even know that there were such a thing like Talents untill lvl 14.
Thought that the more armor the gear had the better it was, untill like lvl 30 something.
The quest in westfall were you need to kill Vultures to get Stringy Vulture Meat for westfall stew, i thought that the vultures were the birds flying above me, so i tried to target them and shoot them down, cuz i was a hunter, and grab the items >_>. Untill a friend told me to kill the big ones on the ground.

I didn't use any of my talent points until around level 40 because I thought that talent decisions were irreversable and permanant, which they were in the MMO I had come from, Ragnarok Online, and I was scared to make a mistake. ;)
Best choice of a mistake to make
